Maps and Charts

Post by Randy Yeager »

Need opinions on maps and charts, Anybody Please!

I'm shopping for sonar and want to upgrade to a unit that uses the hard disk or map discs but I have heard that navionics chips are not very accurate compared to Lowrance.

Are there other chips to pick from or anyone have advice on the best chips for the Delta, Clearlake, Shasta, Mead, Havasu?

I want to make sure I get the best maps that are compatable with the sonar I choose.

I use the Navionics Hot Maps Classic, and I love it. No Delta though. Navinics makes a map with contours for the Delta, but it's not on the Lakes chip, it's separate. The only Lowrance map I know of is the Map Create software. That's where I got my Delta map, but no contours on that one. Lowrance and Navionics is a good combination, in my opinion. I have the X15, so I can't use the newer Navionics color maps. But my dad has them in his boat and they look awesome.

Randy;

I bought the " New" Navtronics chip for the West Coast and it is the best I have tried..I use a X15 gps... this will give you the best map for all the lakes you listed plus the delta map gives you contours and tides...it also has Lake Mead in contour, if you decide to fish the Stren this next year...buy the New Chip...the old one either had the delta or lakes but not both...the new chip rocks...Fisherman's Warehouse has them...I'm sure other stores in your area have them...

I also have a Garmin/gps in the dash that uses a builtin map that can be upgraded thru the internet....with new maps...

The Garmin " Was " more accurate before I bought the new chip for the Lowrance,,,now the X15 does a better job and the screen is larger...
