My trailer is going on three years old and there is some ware and tear showing and I would like to know what some of you guys do to maintain these items from the Trailer.
1. My Trailer Jack is starting to get hard to roll up or down. I have sprayed WD-40 but it would seem that I should oil or grease the inter workings? But there are no grease fittings and oil just leaks on the floor.
2. My Trailer Winch is working great but when is the time period to change the winch strap? Also, I could not find replacement straps – do you have to replace the whole unit?
3. My Roller is starting to show dents in the rubber – I hoping this is an easy change out item?
4. Does anyone perform maintenance on the Trailer Hitch (Oil or Grease)?
5. My Hitch Ball is losing the chrome – is it wise to put a thin layer of grease on it?
6. My Ball Mount is ok but is there any signs to look for?
Any advice would be great – thanks
Marty

Re: Maintenance on Trailer Jack, Winch, Hitch, Ball, and Mou
Hi ya Marty;
I pulled off the access cap on my jack and used white grease on the gears, never have had a problem since,
Western Marine on line has straps, so dose Bass Pro, The straps are usually good for years, unless cut or frayed, I un-roll mine once a year and check, Never have had to replace mine and it's been going strong sense 94.
When ya lose the chrome or protective paint on any metal , rust is your number one enemy, Replace the ball and touch up paint the bare areas on the trailer and you should be good to go.
On the ball mount I always check my electrical connections for the ground wire and make sure the trailer tongue is working free and use some spray on [penetrating oil on it occasionally.
I have had to replace the end of the wire connection for the ground and also the screw every so often.
Most is just routine maintenance and you should be good for a long time.
tight lines bud.

Maintain something before it breaks down? That is a good idea, I may have to start trying that
.
