Lowrance question

Post by duckhuntr07 »

I just bought an older Lowrance x-65 off of Ebay to replace the one in the dash of my '01 Ranger. I need some help if any of you guys share some sonar knowlege.

The one I bought off of EBAY (x-65) came with the skimmer transducer that I believe is for mounting on the trolling motor (looks just like the one I have on there now for the x-85 on the bow). Will that same unit (the x-65) work with the puck style trans that I believe must be mounted in the hull of my boat?

Also, when I plugged it in to the power and trans it powered up fine but read zero feet in my garage. Is that because it needs water to get a depth reading? (sounds like a dumb question but I turned the one on the bow on and it read 12 feet in the garage)

Last, will the power cable and puck transducer for the x-65 work for the x-75 or x-85? I was going for a quick easy inexpensive fix without having to run new wires and mount a new trans in the hull. I've seen some good deals on the x-75 and x-85's.

I will eventually upgrade these units but for now I need the affordable fix.

Thanks

Yes, the transducers and power cables are interchangeable between these three units.

Yes, you need water for the transducer to report a depth.

The Transducers are - Skimmer - HS-WSBK and Pod/ThruHull - PD-WBK

The power cable part # is PC-17BK

Also, there was an X-85 or 75 or both for sale a few days ago in the classifieds. Check there - I believe the price was really affordable.

You're the man Gator thanks for the help. I did see the units for sale in the classified section. That's exactly the reason I asked. ( I hope he still has them)

I paid over $100 for the x-65 I bought on Ebay......DOH!!!

That always happens to me. I should stop looking after I buy.

Thanks again for the help.

I just tried a similar upgrade myself, and like you was looking for a "plug-n-play" replacement ...replaced an Eagle Ultra Classic at the console with an LMS-160 GPS/Sonar combo unit. However, I failed to realize that the new unit uses a 4 pin power cable rather than a 2 pin that the old unit used. :x

So now I have to figure out how to replace a power cable. Doesn't seem that difficult, but locating the correct cable at the battery and then threading the new cable through looks to be the hard parts. I will also have to install the GPS antenna, but that seems easy enough.

I also had bought my unit off Ebay, and made the mistake of bidding on 2 units at the same time! I bid really low on one and didn't expect to win it...but of course I did!

So now I have to complete set up's, each with GPS at the console. I think I am going to sell the Eagle set up, Ultra Classic (same as X-75) and Eagle Journey GPS, and keep the Lowrance set up, X-75 and LMS-160.

duckhuntr07, let me know if you want to upgrade to a GPS set up as I would be willing to make you a deal on the Eagle combo. I have all the cables and the transducer's for both units and the GPS antenna. Let me know...

X65 and X75 The power and transducer are the same for these two units. This was my old setup and I was able to swap units without issues.

As for the double echo if you place the puck in a baggy full of water or mineral oil then place it on the flat surface of the hull you should get a better read on the machine. It is strange that you are getting 0 reading on the ducer it should at least show like mud or double\triple bottom echos, but a blank screen something is wrong there.

Hope this helpsl

topwater if you want to run the new cable to the battery u can ...but if u have any acc on/off switches on the console u can tap into the power and ground for that with no problem just make sure u put ur 3 amp fuse with the red wire....did this with my x25 and works fine and no interference....jack

I'm not going to plug anyone here but I know of a couple seminars in the sac and rocklin area on Learning about GPS. I don't know how basic or technical it is but if anyone wants info just PM me. I'm sure that's a good place to ask questions
