Try www.barlowstackle.com they have a Gamakatsu Jig hook 2894 in sizes 3/0 and 4/0 with a 90 degree bend. the 4/0 wire Dia. is .056. ALso check www.ownerhooks.com they have some really strong 90 degree jig hooks with cutting points that might interest you.

Use Caution when ordering from Gamakatsu web site. They have the highest shipping and handeling charges that I have ever seen. Order from somewhere else.

I bought three packs of weedless hooks last May just before the FLW delta tournament. Hooks cost me less than $10 dollars. And shipping was $20. I tried to get them to ship via the US post office for a few bucks but they wouldn't do it. They shipped them UPS. Saying that they have have to much trouble getting thing delivered from the US post office. I don't know what they are talking about. I've ordered lures from Japan and have never had anything lost using the US postal Service?

If an EWG is what you want there are a few different options. Check out Barrlows, lure craft and do-it. I honestly would not use a EWG for anything other than a swim jig. Only reason for an EWG in my opinion is if your trailer is super fat of you are trying to make the trailer stand up better. In that case I would get a brush jig mold that uses larger hooks and sits on the bottom like a stand up but still fishes like a football and falls like an arkie.

If you want EWG's in a football your better hook options are in 28 degree and 60 Degree. There are few and limited sizes in EWG with 90 Degree.

Take a candle and smoke your mold, make it black. Take your 60 degree EWG and lay it were you want in the mold. Close it hard. When you open it up take out the hook and you will see what needs to be cut with a dremel.

The gamakatsu 2584 WG is a short shank hook and may not be the best for casting a football head, better suited for arkie style jig. The standard 90 degree Gammy 604 or Owner 5319, 5/0 are good for the football jig. There isn't a standard for hook sizes; the 4/0 WG is about equal to a 6/0 standard round bend hook.
Barlows has all styles in stock.

why EWG ? It seems to me that a straight Mustad would have better hook up ratio ??

Ewg's do not have as good a hook up as a straight shank. Just like most things though a EWG looks cool and kinda scary. I pour allot of lead and tie allot of jigs. The stuff I tie for most has frog hair, silicone, fine rubber, 3 color powder coat ect..... The ones I make for myself are either brown or black and I might paint the head, they work just as good.

60 degree hooks

Mustad 32786 is the best hook I have used. For flipping and heavy cover.

Mustad 32729 is the best for footballs and lake jigs.

Owner makes good hooks to. All my dart heads and 90 degree hooks are owner. They also make some good 60 degree hooks.

Gammi makes a great hook dont get me wrong, but there steel tends to break more often than the mustads of the owner. Plus the gammi's are way over priced.

Example: 1000 1/2 ounce arkies in Mustads cost me 200 bucks to make. 1000 1/2 ounce arkies in gammis costs me 426 bucks to make. And the mustads are stronger.

As I recall the question was about Gamakatsu hooks. There are a lot of good jig hooks on the market; Sohumi, Daiichi. Matzuo, Eagle Claw, Mustad, Owner and Gamakatsu to choose from.
Price is related to quality. Round wire, forged, finish, gap depth and shape, bend, length, eye position and sharpness. Take your pick and buy the one you like.
I changed from Mustad & Eagle Claw to Gamakatsu & Owner 20 years ago and haven't had any problems or lost any big bass due to hook failure. Price is not an issue, (don't sell my jigs) losing a giant bass is.

Who's selling jigs if you want to buy them in bulk and save money then buying 1000#at a time is cheaper than buying 100# count shorty's hooks carrys the 2894 gamakatsu hooks. I think gamakatsu hooks are a great product but ive been using mustad products for over 25 years now and there still right up there with the rest of the other hooks.
