LMS 520 C settings
Could anyone tell me the settings to use with the Lowrance LMS 520 c sonar? I usually use the auto, but I heard you get better readings when used manually. Let's say I am in 20' water would I limit the depth to 20 or 30? I want to be able to see more detail in the structure if possible. Sorry, I can't aford the Humminbird/Lowrance side imaging units

Re: LMS 520 C settings
I'll look around Ralph I'm sure I have a set of Don Iovino's instructions on this matter. I'll put them in my boat for when I run into you next at Casitas.

Ralph, Don Iovino's book maybe out dated, but still a good refernce for basic settings like you are asking about, plus some good tips on finesse fishing.
Call Don; 818/849.6180
If you are fishing Casitas the next few days, I can show you on the water.

Re: LMS 520 C settings
Ralph, I spoke with Don Iovino at Anglers a couple of years ago. I am going by memory right now. He told me to set the sensitivity at 85, color line at 70, ping speed at 75, chart speed at 75, and I think surface clutter or the noise to medium (I will have to get back to you on the last one). You would want the depth to be twice of what you are fishing in so you can pick up the second echo and occasionally adjusting the sensitivity or color line depending on what depth your in. Thats how I have been using mine and seems to work out fine. In this field I would check with Don though. He has many more hours logged in using the units than I do.
