Line for night fishing?
Line for night fishing?
Is there a better line out there that shows up with a blacklight other than Stren?
Re: Line for night fishing?

I use 10-15# braid - Fireline flame green with a 10 ft fluorocarbon leader. Some think its too stiff. There's another white line but that is way to stiff for me.
Any dyed braid looks like a rope on fire under black light.

p-line cxx hi-vis is probably the best line for night fishing. They also make it in a chartruese color too
Re: Line for night fishing?
personally I don't worry about black lights or anything along those lines. at night I will fish straight 15lb Maxima green for my cranks and for a worm or jig I will go up to as high as straight 20lb maxima. I am not looking for line watching at night...those fish usually don't tick your bait...at night they SLAM the bait!!!

McCoy Fishing Line Co. makes a Clear Blue Fluorescent line that has the same characteristics as McCoy's Mean Green or Xtra-Clear fishing line.

The question is; do you think black lights help your night fishing?
Not trying to hijack your thread, lights do not spook bass at night. If you don't have a bug issue, use enough light to allow you to cast accurately, you shouldn't need to see your line glow in the dark.

when I went back to TN to fish for a year I met a guy who had the black light set up. I got to admit it, it was pretty cool. You can fish a jig up tight at night and watch your line take off left or right with the glowing line. Senko and jig fishing at night when you can see your line is pretty fun. Atleast in TN it was, pitching jigs up around dark docks produced a lot of big fish for us.

Oldschool to answer your question, I can and have fished with and without the light it doesn't seem too make much of a difference to me, but one person I fish with insists on using the light, sooo I will put on the line that shows up best.
Re: Line for night fishing?
Some guy! They don't night fish in Tennessee. I think.
Re: Line for night fishing?
Use the line that you have the most confidence in using. I tend to fish closer to the boat at night and make shorter casts. The result can be hooking bass on a short string and that can require stronger line and good knots, so you don't break off a hot big bass.
I have tried black lights, no lights, flood lights, hat lights and high power underwater lights and prefer the later.
Good luck.

+1.... If you have good jig and worm rods you dont need that stuff. Fluoro or hybrid line and g.loomis glx or Daiwa steez. I like yozuri hybrid in 10-15 lb test at night. the hybrid gives you a little more sink rate and sensitivity than mono and you can fish rock unlike braid. It is also more forgiving than straight fluoro. I also like izorline platnum and xxx.elfish16 wrote:personally I don't worry about black lights or anything along those lines. at night I will fish straight 15lb Maxima green for my cranks and for a worm or jig I will go up to as high as straight 20lb maxima. "High power underwater lights?" Interesting. Are they like the fishing lights that are lowered over the gunwale for still fishing?Oldschool wrote:I have tried black lights, no lights, flood lights, hat lights and high power underwater lights and prefer the later

Brinkmann Q-Beam Starfire II, 250K CP light, about $25.
You need a switched 12V circuit. I drop the light next to the OB about even with the bottom of the boat. The light luminates about a 50' diameter area, like having your boat in a lighted swimming pool. You can see the shoreline, land bass with ease and enough indirect light to retie lures.
Just remember to switch off the light before taking it out of the water and before firing up the engine!!
Some folks think a bright light spooks bass, it actually draws in baitfish and bass. My best night 5 bass limit was over 50 lbs using this light system.
