Lexington Reservoir....Hwy 17??

Post by Fishitifyoucan »

Been traveling this road my entire life and have never seen a bass boat on this body of water. Are there any locals on here that know if it's fishable with a boat and if so, how's the fishing?? Thanks.

I used to fish there in a 10' jonboat, been over 15 years though since I last did that. At that time it was trolling motor power only and it probably still is today.

There are some nice bass in that lake and they love jigs!

Ive had my boat on it a few times(been many years). No gas motor allowed, trolling motor only. Now a days they allow nothing at all. As Long mentioned it can be a great lake, but it can also be very moody. Typical Calero baits work here also. Lots of good bank fishing here, and you can get to most of it by driving the perimeter and walking.
Fishing should be fun.

As already mentioned it used to be opened to electric powered boats only, (unless yours belonged to the rowing club).

The lake is now closed to boats due to Quagga quarantine :( . They, Santa Clara Parks,
say they don't have enough money to assign inspectors there. Even homeowners with lakefront property are not allowed to launch.

I've posted additional information in the Lexington reports section.

Perhaps if enough people ask they will assign an inspector on the weekends,
but it will take a lot of people asking for a long time because of the budget process and
lead times required.

I know I have mentioned this before concerning Lexington. In the good 'ol days, when I fished it - 1973-75, bass fishing was really good, especially for a lake right next to a major highway. Several were caught around the 8 lb range. Bass boats - with the EVIL gas engines were common as they became more popular, along with the usual pleasure boats. Wonderful lake to fish, especially in spring and early summer. I walked the bank often and hooked some big bass, just as I did on my favorite bass lake at the time - Chesbro. Soon Coyote became my favorite!! I caught my first ever bass over 6 lbs, while fishing a blue plastic worm at Lexington - in 1974. That's what Bill Dance always said - "any color as long as it's blue!" I also won the only tournament I ever fished there - fishing with Alfredo Bass! Must have been his name that helped!! What a few decades can do. Calero was a joke then and Anderson only had small bass. Tonight there is a photo (wb.com photo page) of an 11+ caught at Anderson yesterday or today. Wow - if we had bass like that back in the 70's, I might not have ever moved to Yuba City!!!

Bass that big are still not even close to common at Anderson. It's still a dink lake with a big one coming out of there every now and then. I last time I heard of a DD out of there was a couple years back at the Coyote Bait tourney. I'm sure there have been more, but it's definitely not a big fish lake by any means.

Lexington is a great lake, had some really good days out there, it's a shame it's closed to boating.

Nothing is allowed at all, no tubes, no toons. Nothing. They will ticket you.

Brings back some memories, I use to play Competitive Softball tourneys alot and back When I lived in Santa Cruz 1994- 1996. I would stop by and hit Lexington in the early mornings on the way to Twin Creeks or wherever we were traveling to play and I always started fishing on the DAM side and would have decent luck. My Philosophy was to catch one fish and go. I seemed to always be able to catch one within 15-20 min. I would bring two rods rigged up, (DONT LAUGH) a beetlespin and 1/8 oz tigged 4" ring worm (Berkley Powewrbait)

Good luck,

Kap
