Lake Shasta tips??
Re: Lake Shasta tips??
I fish there allot, it's my favorite lake, and while I haven't been up there in a couple months (busy tournament fishing all over) there are a couple basics that I ALWAYS throw, and one or more of em always work.
Number one is a dart head worm, Shasta spots eat em alive. Try mothers worms in mojave oxblood at Phils Propellers. Roboworm margurita mutilator is another good one. I also do well with Roboworms' oxblood-red-flake. You can also drop shot these color worms if ur into drop shotting...it works up there too, I just hate to drop shot if the darthead worm is working.
Number two is a brown 1/2 ounce football jig with a yamamoto spider grub. Think crawfish....
Number two would be spinnerbaits and jerk baits. Not sure if they would hit a spook yet, that is more a fall thing for me there. I catch boat loads of fish up there with a ghost staycee from luckycraft (worth the 15 bucks...I'm talking hundreds off the same lure).
Hope this helps....basics, but basics catch fish up there and I really don't need a ton of other lures. Crankbaits can work well up there, but I'm not good with them, so can't help you in that category.
Unlike others who might work their worms/jigs fast, or hop them, or whatever, I personally do best working them very slow, with long pauses....just seems to work better for me most of the time. On the darthead worm, expect a pressure bite most of the time.

Hay Bill,
Myself and a couple of friends fished Shasta April 21 to 23rd. Total catch for all three of us for three days was 297 bass - mostly spots. Tried quite a few baits but by far the best bait was a 4" senko whacky rigged with no weight. Its a slow way to fish but very effective. Second best was dart headed worms. Colors did not seem that important. We fished the Pit. Work the willows real good and the smaller coves right off the main arm. Fish all rocky walls and the secondary points in the coves.
Good Luck, BASNFAN

Wackys the word. 5" senkos around the willow trees. If it's cloudy try light colors with some flash.
