Lake Roosevelt Lodging/Camping???

Post by Hollywood »

Anyone know of good places to stay close to the main ramp at Lake Roosevelt in Arizona? Is there camping on the water or near the water with hook ups for a motorhome?

How about house rentals?

Thanks in advance.

There's lots of camping at that lake. Cholla, Schoolhouse and Windy Hill all have camping. Check it out: http://www.fs.fed.us/r3/tonto/recreatio ... ndex.shtml. It's the Tonto Basin area. I'm not sure about RV restrictions. There's not much in the way of hotels near the lake. Also, keep an eye on your stuff. Theft is common up there.

Kevin-the Tonto Basin Inn has a suite that is cheap and has a small kitchen. They have power for charging as well. I think a regular room is $40 and the suite is like $65. Fifteen minute drive to the Cholla ramp. There is good camping at Cholla but no power so you would need a generator for charging. You might call John at the Hook-up tackle shop at Lake Pleasant Marina as he has a place at Tonto Basin that is cheap and decent. Should be some good weights and the lake is full this year. Good luck.

There are several RV parks with-in a few miles of Cholla ramp that you can get in to with full hook-ups. The Tonto Basin Inn is the closest motel to Cholla about the same distance as the RV parks. All are also very close to Butcher Hook, a small store, bar and resutrant in cluding gas station. There is also a larger grocery store and gas station approx 1 mile from these places as you enter Tonto Basin. There a Pizza place in Tonto Basin which is pretty good and a resturant in Punkin Center which is at the outskirts of Tonto Basin as you enter the area. Other than that there is a Casino Hoets and verious other motels and resturants and grocery stores in Payson which is approximately 45 minutes from the lake.

As for the camping areas. Yes the one at Cholla does have RV space however, there are no hook-ups. It is improved, but dry camping.

Also, dont forget to visit 'The Tackle Box' in Tonto Basin for any terminal tackle you may need.

Hope this helps...
