Lake mathews?

Post by trout »

My sister lives near Lake Mathews and called me today to tell me that the lake was full of boats. She was not sure what they were doing but she told me that there was a lot of them. Does anyone know if they open the lake to the public sometimes and when.

It is not open to the public. D.F.G. sometimes uses guys with bass boats to catch fish and then they transport those fish to other lakes.

Looks like a DFG employee is in a bass club and got all the members and guests in.....my partner (almost old partner) DB was invited as a guest yesterday and fished Mathews with them / without me.......and then missed the Castaic Club Challenge today (we could have used his support for sure). Sometimes this happens though as other "groups" of people have been granted access to fish it too. Although today is and was a good one for me.......can you tell I'm a little bummed? I got 3 words.......where's my partner? Anybody looking to fish? BTW, they slayed the Stripers and had some great action on the Bass too.....good for them!

Gerry,
Congratulations on an outstanding performance at the Club Challenge.
Biggest sack, and second biggest fish.
Way to go!

P.S.
I had Terry pull all the 800 tickets out of the raffle box and burn them.

Yea, it was a DFG sponsored Striper Kill.... and did we ever kill the stripers. What an awesome lake, the water is crystal clear and it has some awesome structure in it. We had a slow start on stripers so we went after largemouth and caught some nice healthy bass with cranks, jerks, and worms. Around 10am we were making a move and I spotted some bird activity on the East side of the lake so we pulled in and started jerkbaiting and had instant hookups with stripers. From that time on it was almost every cast with the jerkbait or later, (due to the ease unhooking), a fishtrap type swimbait. We caught over 50 stripers, with the average size of about 4lbs. Our largest was about 6 lbs. Every one was fat and very healthy - some of the best looking stripers I have ever seen.

We motored up in the aquaduct arm and it was awesome up there - it looked like that superclear river system they show on TV all the time.

What a great fun time, thanks Mike!! and Joe.

Isn't there some way to get Mathews opened to the public? It would sure take the pressure off Perris.
