Lake Lewisville, Tx -- Any advice?
Lake Lewisville, Tx -- Any advice?
I'm fishing the Bass Central Opens as a coangler this year and the first stop is at Lake Lewisville, Tx in the end of Feb. There doesn't appear to be much info out there on the internet and was curious if anyone has fished this lake before. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Thanks.

I have fished the lake before growing up. I'm actually in Dallas right now and fishing there Sat. I can point you in the right direction.

I fished it as a kid 50 years ago when it was called Garza-Little Elm..Any information I had is now just about worthless..Back then it was a great lake for white bass and crappie..
Good luck on the opens..

Re: Lake Lewisville, Tx -- Any advice?
Thanks James. After you get back I'd like to get your impression as to what sort of CA or AZ lake it fishes similar to, the water clarity and if the fish are line shy like in AZ or some CA lakes.
I think I have a pretty good game plan that I would use for Nor Cal lakes or in AZ, but a little curious as to the water clarity and if the fish are really line shy. I'd love to go there and just fish wood/docks and the damn area from the videos I've found & Google Earth, but from the back of the boat I won't have much say in the matter. The finesse side won't be a problem (inchi wacky, drop shot, neko, shakey head) from what I've found or a reaction bait like a crankbait/rip or spinnerbait. I think I'm more curious as to the jig bite (is it small profile jigs, ligher like 1/4oz), is line size going to be a factor with the water quality and colors aside from the standard black/blue, greens/browns or brown/purple combos. Is 15lb floro going to be too big for some parts of the lake if it's really clear or should I drop down to say 8-12lb like I would in AZ, Berryessa, Folsom, etc?
Usually that time of year I'd have 4 rods with me (something finesse, something reaction, jig and a senko) from the back of the boat and I'd use my prefish time to tune in the bite & line size for the lake. Unfortunately due to work I won't have much prefish time as I'm flying in Tues night and would only get 1 day of prefish on Wed if I can find a back seat open. Either way it's a 3 fish limit for the Co so I might just swing for the fences on this one after I get my limit.
Thanks again and tight lines.
Vince

Re: Lake Lewisville, Tx -- Any advice?
Moved back from Texas 3 years ago and actually had my boat stored at Lewisville for 11 years. There is no California lake to compare it to unfortunately. Typical shallow, texas mudhole. I fished tournaments on it and also was a marshall when BASS rolled through and VanDam caught the lake record at that time. Places for info would be the BASS tournament and Basschamps.com has tournaments on it every year. Lots of boat docks in marina's get fished, the tire reefs in front of the marinas, the current and old dam walls get hit (where VanDam caught his monster) and trees. The BASS guys were fishing shakey heads, jigs, carolina rigs, dropshotting and spinnerbaits. 3 to 4 feet visibility unless it has rained. I never fished lower than 8 pound test and yes, my Texas counter parts got a kick that I fished with anything less than 12. I did well with Senkos, floating worms did real well if they were in some stage of spawning behind the boat docks, flukes, pointers, and get ready to laugh, split shotting a small zipper worm when things got tough. If I were going today I would also throw what you planned on, the inchi wacky as the fish may not have seen that that much. The Texas lakes get fished a lot so I had success a lot of times throwing something different than what they typically throw down there. To answer a few of your questions, I would stick with the green/browns and black and blue, never had much luck with purple as you do out here. 15 pound floro is fine for flipping there and other power techniques, line is not as big a factor down there but to give yourself an edge I would drop down to 8 for the finesse techniques. Small jig wouldn't hurt, one of the BASS guys I rode with threw a 1/4 oz jig around the bridge pilings with some success. Hope this helps and good luck! I think you are fishing Texoma too? If so that I considered my best lake and is more like a California like than most in Texas, let me know. Jeremy

Jeremy is right on. In Feb, if the water is up & dirty...flipping will play a big role.
Also, if the weather is nice that lake can be one of the most dangerous lakes out there. There are a million drunks, boats, jet skis, etc. That's about as "Cali" like as you're going to get. Lol...

Thanks guys! I really appreciate it. I'll be sure to post a report after I get back from the tournament. I can't wait as this sounds like it will be fun.

I lived in Dallas for three years. Anything under 17# test is finesse fishing. Most folks there have never seen a spinning rod. Water clarity is about the same as melted ice cream.

Lived in DFW for ~6 years not long ago and this is my take as well. I usually opted for other lakes in the area.usindynamite wrote:Typical shallow, texas mudhole.
