Kistler Rod warranty

Post by ROLK »

I know there has been much recent discussion about rod warranties, and I wanted to relay a positive experience I had with Kistler Rods. I broke my rod in half a few weeks ago at Berryessa. It was my favorite rod (He69MHC) that I had gave myself for Christmas last year :) I went to take it back to the shop where it was purchased, and they had gone out of business. I did not save my receipt either. I wrote the company a letter explaining the circumstances, enclosed the $35 replacement fee and the $15 shipping fee, and now leaning against my wall is a new rod. No questions asked, no hassle; just as they claim. There is subtle "legalese" written into the warranty that would have allowed them to deny the claim, or repair at a pro-rated cost.
They took me at my word and provided good customer service.

They have always been outstanding at customer service. They make great rods and stand behind them. The Helium 2 series are so light it is sick (my son tells me that means "way cool" nowdays)

Trey Kistler is as straight up a guy as there is anywhere. A long family tradition of rod building and great service. He is definitely in it for the long haul and wants customers to be happy. Plus the rods are super!

Not to put down Kistler in any way, but just about every rod on ebay has been "reconditioned". Yeah, thats maybe why its for sale on ebay, but it seems too common.

just a heads up,

Bassmandon, the Kistler's that you see on Ebay that are "reconditioned" are simply rods that have been damaged in shipping, which, by the way, happens to every rod company. Trey Kistler sells these rods to an individual in Texas who then sells them on Ebay. The rods usually have a couple of inches broken off of the tip and the factory simply puts a new tip on and the seller refers to them as "reconditioned".

My arsenal of 20+ rods is entirely Kistler, some purchased new from TW and some purchased used on Ebay, I've even purchased a couple of the "reconditioned" rods sold on Ebay. Each and every rod rocks! They are, in my not-so-humble opinion, the best rods available at any price. The warranty rocks and the entire series, graphite, magnesium, helium and helium2 rods are tools any angler can benefit from.

Thanks for the info,
I always figured that they were rods that anglers had. An interesting fact and a good idea to recoop any possible losses.
