Re: JIG QUESTIONS ON COLORS AND WHEN
When It comes to jigs I keep it simple. Primarily I have brown and black jigs. I am fond of brown/black combo. From late fall through early spring I like Brown/Purple on clear water lakes.
Early spring Brown/Purple - Brown/Blue when flipping stained water black blue or black purple is hard to beat.
When it comes to jig colors there are a few lakes where the fish really key in on color like Orroville with a green jig or Folsom with orange in it.
For these situation I keep a small assortment of color say a few brown green, brown orange, black red, brown blue.
However, there are a lot of guys out there that are very color oriented when it comes to baits.

Re: JIG QUESTIONS ON COLORS AND WHEN
Jigs, I think that jigs are just like any other bait...We all have our own favorites. I find that colors that work well on the Delta and Clear Lake may not work AS well on the foothill lakes.
Personally on Pedro, Melones and Mc Clure I like the brown, brown/purple and brown/avocado colors, but have seen days on Pedro that a blue jig is a real sleeper that people just don't throw anymore. Fishing at night I have to say that I usually reach for a black jig with a Sleeky or a Bubba Frog(both made by Superpork) as a trailer. These also work well as trailers in the Delta and Clear.
I think if I only had one color/size of jig to fish with it would be a straight brown jig in the 1/2 oz. size.

The one they are eating. DUHH!!!
Color for me is more dependent on the conditions and particular lake than the time of year. Brown/purple and Brown/Green are the two I use most frequently.

Re: JIG QUESTIONS ON COLORS AND WHEN
I will throw a brown & Orange jig all year around. However when I am fishing clear water I will throw a brown jig with some blue flake or purple flake in the skirt. To me I don’t think the color is near as important as the presentation and the speed that the jig falls. You can not go wrong with a brown jig, it’s my confident color in jigs. If I am fishing 0-20 feet of water I throw a 3/8 ounce brown & orange football jig. If I am fishing 20-50 feet of water I will throw a 1/2 ounce brown & orange football jig. Any water I fish deeper than 50 feet I will use a 1 ounce brown & orange football jig. When fishing clear water I use the same size jig as mentioned above just switch from brown & orange to brown & purple or brown & blue. When fishing the Delta I pitch a 1/2 ounce brown & orange football jig on high tide then switch to a 3/8 ounce brown & blue football jig on low tide. Don’t ask me why but this proves to be deadly for me. Hopefully this helps.

Re: Simple
Brown/ purple jig combos, tipped with black/blue pork or any variety of purple/blue trailers, will work anywhere on the planet! I've used a brown purple jig in every lake I've ever fished accross the US. It's the one I have the most confdense in, it's the only jig combo I take and am forced to make it work when I travel. I hd top 30 finishes in my first three BASS events that I fished at Elephant Buttue, Powell & Meed. My first year at the Columbia, I couldn't put the smallie pattern together, so I pitched and flipped, 2 largemouth bass every day up there fer a 3.5 pound average. Actually, not a bunch of forced used there at all, it works!! LOL I've also used Brown Jigs with purple trailers in a number of Mexican and Canadian lakes, they always work. I have a few friends in Australia, Italy and now South Africa, who are using brown jigs with a purple Yammie grub, and they work there too!
I'm a jig kinda guy, and like I told ole Mictser many Nutcase moons ago, I'll go up against anyone, mono a mono, with only a brown/purple jig in hand and have the confidence and expectancy I'm gonna win and catch my fish, anywhere.

Re: Simple
I will say come summer there are only 3 jigs I use until the end of fall.
1 Brown & green pumpikin with a green pumpkin trailer
2 Brown & purple with a brown or purple trailer ( blue a little bit)
3 White with a single tail white grub trailer
#1 is a bluegill pattern
#2 is a crawdad pattern
#3 is a shad pattern
I like to swim all these jigs all summer & fall.

Re: JIG QUESTIONS ON COLORS AND WHEN
I choose the color of my jig according to how clear the water is and what structure I am fishing. I'll switch colors for sandy bottoms, big rock and red clay banks. Clear water i'll use a lighter color than in stained water, just like most other baits. Usually using a lighter Hulagrub in shallower clear water. The depth also plays into what color I use. The deeper I go the darker the color tone I use.
I'll also use different colors up in the rivers than I use in the main lake.
Might sound like alot of different colors but actually I only use about six different jig colors and six different trailer colors.
I don't really think which lake I am fishing matters.
PS: Hey Jigs, Just Curious, why have you started using WE and OUR and US in your posts? You have a split personality? HAR HAR

Re: JIG QUESTIONS ON COLORS AND WHEN
Jigs;
I use a Brown/purple or just plain Brown 90% of the time, I only vary the trailer color...Except at Shasta in late winter...Then I will only throw a Black jig with Brown Superpork trailer..It will catch more large Spot's than anything else..sometimes I throw on a Sleeky in Brown..A Yamy #180 is second and a #197 is third..Pork is my number one trailer all year....They just don't let go of Superpork......in any color...
