Irvine lake Weekday Nightfishing

Post by Shawn R. »

Hey,
I dont know if you guys know or not but i just read this. Irvine lake is now open Monday, Wednesday, and Thursdays from 5PM to 10Pm for catch and release, Private Boat only! $30 per boat regardless of how many anglers.
I think you have to call to reserve your spot.
Its a Superspook, Frog, Buzzbait, and Texas Rig Power worm bite!!! Nothing over 6lbs for me though but fun to night fish a different lake other then MV.

Ive been nightfishing almost weekly for 15 years so for me personally i dont even bring a flashlight i can see fine. Just the running lights on my boat do the trick. its not a problem gauging the shoreline, driving, etc. I do however worry on Irvine about the Drunk rental boaters plowing into me!! Maybe its something to look into after all.
Thank you for your suggestion!!

How is the fishing

at night at Irvine.. I see what you are catching them on... However, are you catching many?

Also, there are rental boaters there at night? or am I confusing the last message with the first one? I thought it was private boat only at night?

Thinking about heading that way... I used to go there a lot when I lived in OC... the fishing was generally pretty good during the day.

Thanks,
Tom

You were confusing messages, I was referring to Friday and Saturdays when the lake is open to everyone including the rental "Tokers". Everytime ive ever been out on a weekend, without fail, someone in a rental boat plows into another boat or the shoreline! Mon. Wed. and Thurs. are private boat only nights for bass fisherman. As far as quantity of fish ive been catching, last time out was 15 keepers for me (up to 6 lbs). I mainly just night fish on MV (ill be there again tomorrow) but Irvines a nice change of pace and open to the public so i thought id share! Its been a few years now but i did get a 10+ out of Irvine so i know they're in there!
Good luck

I have fished there on a weekly basis for quite some time, and ya I gotta agree with ya, watch out for the rental boat mongers. But even being anchored up like I am, fishing crappie and cats - I have had guys shaking worms snag my cat rod at times. Especially if I am anchored up on one of those prime humps out there. So watch out for the guys on the electric motor also. This fall should be epic out there. Look for a good crank bite at night real soon. Blades too.
