14 inch trout inhaled!!!!

Post by Shad*Wizard »

Watched a monster bass try to take a 14 inch trout away from a bank fisherman out at Loma yesterday...The bass snatched it about 3 ft. away from the bank as three of us watched...Amazing!!!...He had it for around 4 seconds before it came loose in its mouth...

The trout floated back up, no movement in sight...It was stunned...The teeth marks on the trout were about 7 inches from the nose of the trout...The bass ate it head first as we could see the tail sticking out its mouth...The trout measured 14 inches...

Anyone else ever see this???...Guy on the dock nearby said the same thing happened to him awhile back...

Swimbait makers, new molds please!...

Last Thursday at Loma Luke had the BIGGEST bass on- it stripped 30 yards of line out in 4 seconds pitchin' and dead sticking a senko into the tules. could of gone 7-9 pounds...... mabey better.

It jumped twice and that fish was a MONSTER ! -- to bad it spit the hook on the 2and jump.

Asked Luke why he did not burry the hook and he said he did all he could with his thumb.... I felt his drag and asked him why it was so loose....

His answer -- "I love the feeling of a fish fight on my rod"

Reminded him to keep that drag set tight to drive the hook home-- then battle it as you deem safe for the fish.

Wife is still in awe of that moment as she saw the whole thing !!

Shad- Have you run into some people there lately that seem to be missin' some french fries short of a happy meal at Loma ?

Not talking about one or two french fries -- more like the whole serving..... Image

Saw this happen to my buddy when we were fishing a 4 acre pond in Sac. My buddy hooked about a 12in trout and as he was getting it close to shore a 6-8lb bass came from under some floating weeds and just inhaled the trout. What amazed us was just how long it held onto the trout...we almost landed the bass!

Did it look like this???

<img src="/shared/photos/photos/resized/431_resized.jpg">

Pleasanton ISE Bass Bin - A couple of trout were dumped into the tank after hours. This trout was about 12" long. It took the bass about 2 minutes of stalking to catch and eat it. It was pretty cool.

While fishing at Spring Lake in Santa Rosa in my tube, I heard something going on behind me. I heard a few splashes and I turned to see the boils on the surface. Just then a trout that looked every bit of 12 to 15 inches come out of the water on a 45 degree angle looking for an excape route, must have been a monster bass chasing it. I've seen trout come out of the water for bugs, and such but not like that.
Show me the water and I will fish.

Gator,
That is an awesome picture. I once had a bass do the same thiing over a San Pablo resevoir. My best friend was trolling for trout and of course the bass hit on the retrieve. My buddy said he had never felt anything fight as hard as that bass. Almost made it to the boat before she let go.

My partner Kevin was fishing a couple of weeks ago and tossing a Hudd. He said a nice trout came up behind it and was swimming with. He said he was reeling as slow as he could stand and just watching the two swim together when out of no where a huge bass comes out of nowhere, eyeballs the Hudd but decides to chase down and eat the real one!

How come I never see this stuff, fish stories  .

Kevin if I'm telling it wrong get on here a little more and tell it right!
I had to come back...I know...

Oh yea one more thing, when you see small trout jumping not just big bass chase small trout, BIG trout or salmon will chase little trout too. Its just a predator thing. I had Big salmon or maybe trout well over 10 lbs chase and nip at my hudd at Pedro. Lets not forget that now and then you will get a big Cat on a swimbait too LOL!!!

Hey Gator,

Do you you remember what end of the show that trout was put in??

I was just woundering how long it took that bass to be able to eat in that tank?

Also you said it took a few minutes, did the bass eat when it got face to face? cornered, or presurred from the other bass?

Thanks, cool pix 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

It was on Saturday of a four day show. There seemed to be no pressure from the other bass. This bass was one of the largest in the tank. As soon as the trout hit the water, the bass in the tank took notice. I think there were 3 trout total (they came from the sure catch tank and had swallowed hooks and were expected not to survive). This one went to the bottom and started swimming slowly and this big girl zeroed in on her. Funny thing, this trout kinda listed to the side and sunk to the bottom after about 30 seconds and the big bass seemed to lose interest. When the bass backed off, the trout uprighted and started swimming again and the bass regained interest. It was about 20 seconds later that she HAMMERED this trout. I think the trout was kind of quartering towards the bas when she hit it. It was an awesome sight. I wish I had a tank like this to test stuff out in!!

So.......
Where was the swimbait rod.
Every time I'm at a trout planted lake I've got a SPRO tied on close by.

To bad I live at Clear Lake now. I miss watching that type of action at Lafayette Res. and San Pablo!

I just about guaruntee that if that bass missed your trout and you threw a trout swimbait to follow it up, you would have nailed him.
