How long it takes for a largemouth bass

Ever wondered how long it takes for a largemouth bass in Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley to reach keeper length?

Adam Martin, sportfish biologist for Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Resources, has answers.

In an average of data between the two lakes, Martin said it takes 4 ½ to 5 years to reach the keeper length of 15 inches. But the same data also shows that keeper length could be reached as early as four years, or as late as seven years.

Interesting article. Good release to practice proper C&R.

Florida strain LMB growth rate in California reservoirs is nearly double the rate shown this chart.

This graph shows a compilation of mean length at age of LMB from lakes all over SoCal (n=289 from 22 lakes)....most of those getting consistent trout stockings. C&R culture has destroyed growth rates and has contributed greatly to the death of the trophy bass fishing in SoCal. Florida strain or not, trout or no trout, doesn't matter. The significant decline in harvest over the last 30+ years has kept fish in systems at the expense of growth rate and growth potential.
