How can I get boat carpet to have that new look again?

Post by fishfarm »

Boat is only a year old and already looks terrible with various stains, no wear marks yet. Does anyone have any tricks to make look new again. Thought about a steamcleaner, but seams a little cumbersome and awkward.

Jeff if you didnt catch so many fish and swing em in it would look new. HA HA Mine hasnt been the same since Darrell caught that catfish at the night tourn at Pedro and had to get the crankbait out. Just heard they have a windsurfing contest at Tulloch while we are there.

I use a product from the Dollar Store called Awesome. Wet the entire carpet, spray it on the bad spots, scrub with a brush and rinse it out. It takes a WHILE to rinse out but I think it is well worth the effort. This stuff going through your bilge helps clean that up as well.

Have you noticed at all, if it fades your carpet? Have you only seen it at the dollar store?

Call me or email me, I need to give you back this Nav Unit, I noticed it again the other day in my closet.

I've used Kirby, Bissel, and Rug Doctor products and have never seen an issue with fading. Like Gator says, it's important to wet or pre-soak the carpet, then hit the bad spots a little extra and get out the scrub brush. It seems tedious, but you can bring it back to a new look, especially if you find the lay of the nap and go opposite. Oh yeah, give it a good vacumning before and even after if you think it needs it, because the scrub brush will kick up lots of little sand pebbles. I use a spray bottle with the proper micture of water and the product of your choice.
It might be lonely at the Top, but it's a bitch, at the Bottom !

I've taken my boat to the self serve car wash and the cost is approximately $3.00 to power wash & rinse the carpet. No scrubbing reqired - I wish I had my dad to go fishing with but that can not happen, passed 50+ yrs. ago. So, instead I go with my brother-outlaw, who gets coffee and attractent on the carpet and on the sides of the boat.

FishFarm,

Heres what I do to clean my boat carpet:

* Vacuum the entire boat.
* Use a portable Bissel carpet cleaner to clean the carpet. (Do not use more soap than indicated on the reservoir!)
* Pressure wash the carpet after using the carpet cleaner. The purpose of this to remove any soap residue thats in the carpet, and the high pressure water provides a scrubbing action to remove those stubborn stains.
* Use a Shop Vac to remove the water from the carpet.

I know, it seems like too much work but my carpet remain clean for 11 years with no stains And I've lost count how many fish hit the deck of that boat. The only signs she showed were normal wear over the years until I sold my boat last year.

This does not affect any electronic's or anything.I have heard this more than once but i am concerned about overspray on my electronic's and ignition and switch's.

My front unit is console mounted and all the switch's are on the side.Do you cover these type item's up before hand.

Most bass boats have marine grade switches, and ignition wires and terminals are not exposed on the outer console. We fish in the rain all day with these rigs and never "knock on wood" have to deal with shorts or blown fuses. If you have exposed connections and switches that are not design for marine applications its best to cover these items.
