Help! Which boats do Tall People own?

Post by UhSon »

I'm 6'-7" and having a heck of a time finding a boat I can fit into. I was looking at buying something used but newer. Any advice? I have sat in most of the Rangers and as much as I like them, I don't fit in them. I kind of fit in the Skeeter 20i and heard I would fit in a Champion, but have never been in one. Suggestions?

I'm 5'7", and when I first bought my Bass Cat FTD, I felt like I had to really reach forward for the steering wheel and also my hotfoot. I'm used to it now, but I remember thinking, "this boat is definately made for taller people". The room behind the consoles in a Cat is pretty spacey.

I bought a Ranger and it has plenty of leg room for me and I am 6'-2" 230lbs. I have to be able to strech out my right leg because my ankle is fused.

Mike: Didn't the Big O from the Kings buy a Ranger from you? They don't get much taller/bigger than him.

UhSon, I think it's going to get down to you checking out boats until you find one that fits. I'm 6'3", have an old Stratos that is only 16'9" long and I fit behind the console just fine.

Hi UhSon,

I'm 6-3 and own a BassCat Cougar FTD and I will confirm what Rod said below. I can barely touch the foot rest when I'm all the way back in my seat and I have long legs. Not only that but my knees are nowhere near the bottom lip of the console. If you can, get a ride in one.

I am pretty darn sure you'll be impressed with the leg room but you'll also be impressed with the quality build and if you end up buying one, you'll be impressed with the factory customer service.

Go to www.basscat.com and then go to the Owners Forum. Ask anything there and you'll get answers from not just the BassCat crowd but the owner Rick Pierce himself.

I hope this helps.

Bass Cats are made for big southern boys. I am not all that tall but my big rear end has my knees hitting consoles on most other boats but in my Bass Cats I have room to spare. Add to that, Bass Cat has won the JD Powers Award for Customer Satisfaction for the past 3 years in a row...there's a reason for that!

Send me an email for a demo ride if you're in the Sacramento area.

I am 5'3" and also have a Cougar FTD, i have gotten used to it but i am sure that a basscat will have enough room for you, plus they are the best built boats out there, mabey not the slickest looking but i believe that they are constructed to the highest standard in the buisness. The 2008 Cougar is really cool.

and if you want to take a ride in one PM me

I am 6-7 and own an older champion. It is 19 feet and I have plenty of room. I would stay away from a hot foot petal being really tall, but other than that most long boat have plenty of room.

Im 6-3 Legend has way more leg room than any other

Post by Jim Conlow Sr. »

My 21 foot legend has way more leg room than any other boat that I have been in. I have fiased 7 years as an am and was fishing up to 16 to18 tournaments a year, so have fished in almost every kind of boat.

In addition to being a great all around boat I think it will fit you. My cell number is 707-333-6241

6' 4" and about 235. I have a Champion 206 with a hotfoot and have plenty of room as does whoever is going for a boat ride that day.
Not to knock any of the other boats mentioned and I'm not sponsered by anyone but my own sweat, but I've ridin in a few of the mentioned above and beat the heck out of my knees. Now that's on the passenger side of the boat.
I'll pass on one other observation. Me being the hight I am, I'm looking eye to eye with a lot of guys at events, we seem to be some bigger folks, and we're all operating different brands of boats. I'm sure you'll find one that fits-Good Luck.

I'm 6'2". I sat in a Z20 and my knees hit the dash. So that made that decision when I was looking for a new ride. I went with Skeeter 120 and no problems. Lot's of room.
