Hds 5 lake insight & base map HDS 7 gen1

Is it an update for mapping ? I can't see any detail on my mapping, sometimes my base map tells me I'm on land. What's the solution ?

Btw I was referring to the map on the cal delta

You are looking at two different models of mapping in the title of this post. The HDS 5 Lake Insight means this unit has preloaded lake mapping detail in the unit. The HDS 7 Base Map means there are not official mapping data loaded into this unit. You will need to purchase a Lowrance Insight USA map card and then you will have all the lakes and the Delta mapping on the unit because the unit will be reading the card for it's map data.

People have asked me why some HDS units are cheaper than other HDS units. It's the mapping data preloaded into each unit that makes the difference. The Base Map units are the cheapest because they have no mapping data in them and you will need to purchase a mapping card to have mapping detail on the unit.

Ken,

How can I make sure that I have the latest version of insight mapping ? I currently have the navionics map card on my hds 5 insight, should I switch it to my hds 7 base map ?

Is the insight mapping going to give me contour detail on the cal delta ?

When you get an HDS with insight mapping, that is what you get. There are no updates for it. What's loaded into the unit is what you have. The HDS 5 has insight mapping which includes the Cal Delta. The 7 has no mapping. I would use the Navionics card in the 7.
