Guys with a power pole

Post by biteme »

Hey guys as some of you know Im about to finish my project boat. Well I have two sportsman power poles and wanted them to work off the same switch. Well turns out it can be done without adding 150.00 in gear. SO I found a place that sells a remote for power poles. Its great for the sportsman because to get a remote to work from power pole you have to buy 500.00 worth of gear. Well this guy sells a remote setup for about 160.00! I hooked it up this morning and it works GREAT! I also bought another remote kit from him that works for lights, trim ect. So I hooked it up to my trim. This works out great for me because I have to lower my motor to get in/out of my garage. Now I dont have to get out and lower/raise the motor. Pretty cool! I'd also like it to work for my bluewaters but I guess that will have to wait.
Anyway heres the link, MODS Im no way connected to the owner. I just thought it was cool and would save some guys cash!

The link is working fine for me...

But I do have some words of caution for you... That remote could come back and bite you in the rear. That remote looks like a common universal and could easy cross signal with anyones car remote, garage opener, remote controlled car/plane, etc. It would suck to be driving through a town and have your power pole accidentally deploy and start dragging or have your motor lower and start dragging. As we rely on remotes more and more, the odds of someone else using the same frequency/modulation increase.
Do it like no one is watching...

I run both my power poles off the same switch(s) and all it required was a $23 wiring harness. I think you are blowing smoke to get business for this other company. Which is fine, but at least be truthful in your sales pitch. As far as the power pole remote; it's under $300.

Those that know me around here know Im not connected with the company. I guess you cant pass anything along these days. YES you can run both poles with the 23.00 harness if you have a pro unit, I dont. Im talking about the guys with the sportsman units. Power pole wants you to buy the pro model so they make the remote kit less for that unit.
Anyway I was just trying to help those that want to save some cash out. Oh well I guess.

I had to program the remote when I installed it yesterday.

Link works for me now, Not a bad idea to be able to disable while towing. Maybe a simple switch could do it.

I am not trying to jack this thread but have you guys found any problems with getting the boat in the garage with the powerpole? Is the powerpole taller than the motor when the motor is around half way trimmed down?

The Power pole can be lowered to any height.... the switch u get is a spring loaded toggle.... u can lower and stop it at any height.......I think the miss understanding is some think u just push a button and the pole will deploy all by itself and stop when it hits bottom..... but u have to actually hold the button to go all the way down until it makes contact.... hope this helps 8)
