gone the last 4 years to WPB to fish... okeechobee is only about an hr inland from there. u can rent a bass boat (yes, a 17' glass bassboat) trollin motor and all for under $200. if u want that, call ahead and reserve it... roland martins marina.

i went out with a guide 2 years ago and our best 5 easy went 30lbs... the guide was $350 ish and was well worth it splittin it with a buddy... (i was living in new england then and had never seen a bass over 7lbs, things may be different for u cali boys)

if ur not into spending money u can fish in ANY canal, golf pond, or fountain pond. loxahachee is a great place but u need a bass boat to really get into them there.

the most success ive had is the fountian ponds surrounding the complex my gparents live in. just bring a couple bags of senkos and some hooks and ull have a blast.

Get a guide and fish Okeechobee. The place is awesome. I understand it is better than when we were there last month for the FLW Tour event. Read my tournament coverage on www.backdeckpro.com. At The Tanks column. Using up 150 swimbaits in one day is very possible.

Not much in the way of Peacock bass in WPB, its a little too far north. You can walk fish the lakes around I-95 and the canals along the Turnpike can be great. Most bigger housing complexes have lakes and there is good fishing in some of them. Most don't have guarded gates, just be respectful and don't litter and you should have no problems.
I would rather jog home from my own Vasectomy than spend Saturday at the mall.

Further up the road but, Blue Cypress is a beautiful lake check out Middletons Fish Camp (just inland from Vero Beach) tho I haven't been there in years, speaking of years past Stick Marsh and Farm 13 were hot in the early 90's might be worth a look for a guide trip.
the best way to catch a big one is don't lose um sharp hooks set drag retie!

I'll be fishing around Miami in the salt and freshwater from the 28th -30th then heading to Roland Martin's Marina to fish the Big O the 31st and 1st, fishing with a guide on Thursday and probably renting a boat Friday, let me know if you want to fish together or drink a beer at the Tiki Bar- Hitting the Marlins vs Mets game Saturday night
