Re: fizzing bass?
Not alot of articles Tim, but I attached a pic. This as with anything we do takes practice, so go out fun fishing and take your needle.
Catch a fish deep and put it in the well with the pumps running. Wait about 10-15 minutes for the bladder to inflate real good. This will simulate tournament conditions. After a short period of time, grab the fish by the lower lip and as the diagram shows, insert the needle between the crushers and just above the 12 o'clock position on the gullet. You may or may not hear a fizzing sound as you push the needle in as it penatrates the swim bladder. You shouldn't have to go that deep as the bladder will right up against the back of the gullet. Once inserted, put the fish back into the well and watch the air escape thru the needle. Be careful not to let out ALL of the air as this will take all of the buoyancy out of the fish and it will sink like a rock and lay on it's side on the bottom of the well. That part is trial and error to know exactly how much to take out, however CLOSE works in this instance. The goal is to get the over abundance of air out of the fish so they can control their own buoyancy.
This takes practice, you may kill a few, but take'em home and eat them that way you learn to do this before a tournament and not during the tournament.
Hope this helps.

Re: fizzing bass?
Please.
Waiting only puts unnecessary stress on the fish. The air bladder expands as the lack of the water pressure lessens.
Catch, measure, weigh, tag, fizz then put it in the live well. Or in this case. Catch, fizz and release.
Chasing a fish in the live well to do the above later only stresses all the fish even more.

I don't know enough, to leave well enough alone.
