TV fishing shows - dissapointing :(
Hmmm,
I thought it was going to be the best thing ever when i upgraded my Dish to HD and got the World Fishing Network channel. What could be better - 24/7 of fishing?
Well, i gotta say that i am not so impressed. It seems that they will just about put any moron on TV with a boat. Some of the shows (and i am strickly talking the Bass Fishing shows) are just ridiculous and most of the worst are coming from back East or down South. They are nothing more than 1 or 2 guys out on the boat for the day catching a fish and squelling like little girls on every bite. Even my wife got annoyed, and she wasn't even watching, just heard the noise coming from the TV. She thought i was watching some sesame street or something - doh!
Who wants to just watch guys catching fish with no real information about the exact lake or location they're on; or no real instruction on the equipment or technique? Hello - boring! There is so much more they could be doing and yet its just a montage of fish catching action for the non-fishing audience. I think we've all grown up with the one and only "generic" fishing show with a squelling host - Bill Dance. One is enough!
I did watch Jarrett Edwards new show on the HD channel. That is an awesome HD underwater camera he has (i think his wife does the filming). Hope he does much, much more with it and starts showing us how baits work and react underwater; the strike as it happens, etc. That would be a great addition to his show and something nobody is doing on TV. He's still new at it, so there's some learning going on, but its got potential.
Absolute Kudos to True Bass though, which is on Comcast Sports Channel, and not the WFN. Their show is by far the only one giving real help and direct feedback about fishing a specific lake, using specific baits, for specific situations. They also don't hide the reality that fishing can be tough, so each show is NOT just full of guys catching fish. i think thats great.
Anyone else seen some of these shows? What's your feedback?
Got a favorite; maybe i missed it?

I also like True Bass. Just sorry they can't put up more new shows.

I am gunna start a show True Blank.
Folsom lake, 30 mph winds. Launch the boat no plug. Hit rocks and have bilges run all day while you stand in a foot of water on your deck. Throw a crank bait and it flyes back in you face. Lose a rod or two. Have a ranger yell at you for going faster than 5mph while a wake board boat and jet skis tie up the ramp. Then you cant get the boat on straight on the trailer. Battery dies on the truck. 2 more rods fall out at the gate and you back up to get them and pop all tires on the trailer and truck over that thing that says dont back up.....
That would be a good show.....
I think I will just watch true bass though, good stuff........

One of my favs is Day on the Lake on ESPN2. I love it cause they put the pros on unfamiliar water, and I relate to those episodes often
Re: TV fishing shows - dissapointing :(
Don't forget about "Schooled, by Denny Brauer." Ordinary joe fisherman getting critiqued by Denny himself, then he goes out and does what the guest did. Other than the actual Elite coverage, it was the best part of Bass Saturday on ESPN...

Does anybody else think that "Beat Charlie Moore" was a lame show? Not even sure if it is still on.....
Re: TV fishing shows - dissapointing :(
The wife last week cut our Comcast bill in 1/2 from $145 a mo. for Internet and Cable to $72 a mo. now. With the purchase of a new cable modem and 2 remotes as well instead of the monthly charges we always have had ~ that she got from Best Buy.
We now only get channels 2-82. -- No more Channel 400, 428 and 430 for myself. ~ They were about the only thing I watched on TV since The Sopranos ran their end.
Watched a little bit of Bill today when I woke up on VS. Channel. He gave some re-affirmative info on the action of the fish in their depths on a chart column with bait selection for those colloms of Active Fish to In-Active Fish.
-- Not anything more than anyone can read about here on WB.

You know, we always called each other goodfellas. Like, you'd say to somebody: "You're gonna like this guy; he's all right. He's a goodfella. He's one of us." You understand? We were goodfellas, wiseguys.

I agree, I enjoy both of these shows. Jarrett's show and the camera with the underwater shots and the HD camera is pretty awesome. It really turns out good with all the multiple camera shots he has. I dont know how many of you saw it, but the frog show he filmed at Havasu with Justin Kerr turned out pretty cool, that was a great show.

True Bass is by far the most imformative fishing show on the air right now...period.
Beat Charlie Moore is still on and still OK. I watch it more for the comedy than that fishing. I am from Boston so I get his sense of humor...must be an East Coast Thing. Too bad you dont have NESN...he is on that channel all the time....but with New England sport and celebs fishing...
Have not seen DB's show or Jarrett's...any times and stations?
Thanks...

I'm pretty sure I can beat Charley Moore. Where do I sign up. All he ever throws is that darn spinnerbait!jack65274 wrote:Does anybody else think that "Beat Charlie Moore" was a lame show? Not even sure if it is still on.....

Re: TV fishing shows - dissapointing :(
The show that I like on WFN is Bass Edge. They have a lot of tips and the fishing is not to bad. The show called Lunkerville sucks (aka dinkerville). I was really disapointed with it. I still watch WFN when ever I get a chance. My wife hates it...she doesn't understand my addiction yet.
Re: TV fishing shows - dissapointing :(
I have to admit now that i have young kids that are getting ready to bust open into sports and all other activites. I dont have much time to fish. But the only thing i got is my DVR. Sadly to say i have both Comcast and the Dish. Comcast is the best when it comes to quality of TV shows. True Bass is truely one of the best shows.. (Untill) But one day i was at my buddy Jims house and he has the Dish and he had recorded the Jarred Edwards show and told me that i had to watch his show. I was AMAZED on how awesome a fishing show could be. The underwater cam was the best i have ever seen and the HD quality makes it feel like you are in the boat. I really liked the show he did on the Delta with a little mix bag of Bass and Stripers. The Dish network should give the Jarred Edwards some kind of comission because that was the only reason l bought the Dish. I have email Jarred Edwards and told him that he needs to get on to Comcast. That would be a package Jarred Edwards then True Bass. Sorry to say i think Jarred Edwards is a little bit better then True Bass. But like them both alot. Keep up the good work..
