Fishing near Long Beach

Post by Duckman »

I am going to Long Beach to visit my son who is attending Long Beach State and he wanted to catch some bass. He misses fishing the Delta with me and wanted me to bring my boat and take him fishing. Where is a good place to catch some nice fish? Any info would help. Thanks

Dont need a boat for El Dorado Park - just a rod, senkos, swimbait and flip something.

As for nearby lakes I would say CASHTAIC baby!

if your boat can pass inspection..id suggest Diamond Valley. The bite is incredible.

If you have your boat with you the Long Beach Federal breakwater area is one choice that offers good calico and sand bass fishing using standard bass fishing tackle. It's salt water water so you need to wash down and flush out with fresh water before leaving.
If you know someone at Mission Viejo, thats a great lake close by.
Otherwise you have a 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 hour drive to Castiac, Piru, Pyamide or DVL. Puddingston up by Pamona can be good this time if year also, I don't know about the boat launching.

Duck man, your going to fish in Long Beach, and your going to El Dorado pond?? El Dorado is about 1/ 10th the size of Castaic lagoon. Do yourself a favor and go fish Long Beach Harbor. You can crank the Queen Mary Breakwall, or crank, blade or jig the inside oil islands. These are all locted inside the federal breakwall so there are no swells, and extremely calm. The SWBA had a bass tournament out of long beach last weekend, and it took 22+ pounds to win. If your concerned about salt, just bring a hose so that you can rinse your trailer after launching, and then rinse the whole thing after you pull out. Phil

If you only have a couple of hours to kill, El Dorado Park makes perfect sense. Follow the access road all the way back, under the tunnel, to the last two ponds. Lots of bass from shore. No boat launching. All of the "lakes" are just ponds, but they're stocked with trout and catfish, and have some big bass.
I think it costs $5 to enter the Park. Just bring your fishing license. The Park Rangers do patrol and check for them.

We only had a couple hours to kill and I did not want to pull my boat 350 miles for that so we went to El Dorado and caught a couple small bass. I showed my boy that he could kill some time there between classes at school. I will take my boat down when we have more time to spend.
