Fishing and Mapping Long Lake, WA

Post by ttb31183 »

On Friday I spent the day fishing and mapping Long Lake outside of Spokane. The map is pretty good already, but I wanted to fill in some of the blanks on the map and get better detail on places I like to fish. I also spent a good amount of time fishing and trying some new baits and as always..the lake didn't disappoint.

I started off fishing current for smallmouth and was able to catch around 10 of them. I landed a 4lb 2oz smallmouth and had another one almost the same size that I didn't weigh. I was targeting the fastest current I could find and fishing with a small hair jig.

One of the places I wanted to map I wasn't able to reach. The current was too fast and the rocks were too big for this trip. I'll attempt again or if I take someone else's boat who is willing to scuff it up a little.

After smallmouth fishing, I idled for a few miles looking at my Lowrance SideScan to try to find some new spots. And I did. I found some great piles of logs and some deep trees and made sure to mark them all. I also mapped quite a bit of shoreline while I was doing this.

Since the grass and pads are up, I tried my luck at largemouth for the last few hours. No luck. As always for me on Long Lake, you try for smallmouth and catch largemouth. I pitched, flipped, punched and frogged for over an hour without a bite and my first cast to a "smallmouth spot" with a crankbait produced this 4.48lb largemouth. It always puzzles me fishing for largemouth there, but there are some big ones in there.
