Duck calls?
What type of duck call(s) do you use? Wood, acrylic, poly? Single or double reed? Catalog or custom order?

Re: Duck calls?
My favorite call and the only call I blow is a Haydells DR85. IT is a double reed. I will play with it for a while and tune it to the way i like it. Doesn't stick to bad and sounds awsome. The ducks love it. Another great call that works great is the duck commander drake mallard. Highly reccomend that as well. For geese I blow Primo's shaved reed speck or JJ Lares Speck call. both sound great. My buddies all blow the illusion speck call which is another great call.
I love huntin cause I love going deep into the bush and I always shoot twice!!
Re: Duck calls?
I also use Haydel game calls. I use the VTM-90 for ducks, its a double reed call that works great for me. I also a Hadel extra loud spec call for geese. Another great call that Haydel makes is the Cajun Squealer. Cant really go wrong with a Haydel...
Re: Duck calls?
I started out with the Primos "Wench". Very easy to tune, easy to blow, never had it stick, and with the tuning port you can tweak the sound quite a bit. It is a double-reed call. My favorite is a JJ Lare's acrylic single reed. With that one you can really make some "music", but if your just starting out I would go with one of the composites or something a little less pricey until you find one that you like.
I also have a couple of Wingsetters for widgeon, teal and sprigs.
For geese, my favorite all time was a Tim Woods 'Gander Lander' but unfortunately I lost it and as far as I can tell they are out of production now
so I am using a Big River goose flute and also have an Illusion call that is easy to get it to break because of the tuning port at the end. These are both composite bodies. I had a nice spec call that broke apart on me in the field and I lost the reed block and I still haven't found one I like yet to replace it with...

Re: Duck calls?
I bow a Haydel DR85 and a Duck Commander "Original" that works well. The little fellar is learning to blow on the Duck Commander. The ISE show in Sacramento last year had some nice custom calls that carried a custom call price tag.
You would think they would be better priced for the show.

Re: Duck calls?
The Haydell DR85 has been a very good sell at the Hook Line & Sinker.

Re: Duck calls?
The best call for Mallards is a call be Shane Roten, it is very loud but does not break over at the hi notes and you call call very soft as well.
Re: Duck calls?
I use a single reed Mick Lacy call and a Primos Yo' Sista Duck Call. The primos is another single reed and will bring in call shy birds.
