Dobyns Crankbait Rod
Dobyns Crankbait Rod
I'm looking at getting a Dobyns crankbait rod and looking for suggestions because this will be my first crankbait rod. I will mostly be fishing crankbaits like wiggle warts, bandits, small square bills like RC's and 110 jerkbaits and maybe a lipless crankbait. I was looking at the 684cb because I will be fishing around docks and trees but I have always thrown 7 foot rods. My main question is should I go with the 684cb or 685cb power rods to try and fit most of these applications.

Re: Dobyns Crankbait Rod
yeah it will play dueling banjos like on deliverance when you get a hit. I got a 702 powell cb glass rod for my lipless crank baits its really nice. The fiberglass they use now is lighter and feels awsome, it is my favorite rod, it is a mod-fast action and they through the hooks less with that parabolic action. Gary is working on some glass rods now and I am sure they will be worth the wait. PM him and see when he is going to release those.

Re: Dobyns Crankbait Rod
If you like 7' rods, and want to throw smaller cranks like wiggle warts, go with the 704cb, it's also a great small-mid size rip bait rod. The 705cb is an outstanding choice bor bigger deeper diving cranks, and a full service rippin rod as well as a great choice for throwing spinnerbaits. hope this helps, if availability is a problem,pm me, and i'll see if I can help you locate a dealer.

Not that I throw Dobyns rods, but glass is the way to go!!
Fiberglass is a whole bunch better than the early days, you know, when dinosaurs roamed the earth!
I have a Daiwa S 7' M glass rod and it is not a whole bunch heavier than any of my other rods, and it is a crankin king.
I'm considering my next rod the 7' MH glass rod, something with a little more backbone for tossing rattletraps or rips.

Re: Dobyns Crankbait Rod
I have the dobyns 705 cb and the 706. The 705 has been used to throw almost everything in my tackel box short of jigs and large swim baits . I am trying to get down from 2 dozen rods to just four or five and the 705cb will be part of the final selection
Re: Dobyns Crankbait Rod
Will I be able to throw a megabass 110 with the 705CB or will that be to heavy of a rod?

Re: Dobyns Crankbait Rod
I think the megabass 110 is a 1/2 oz. lure weight The 705cb has a crankbait profile (moderate fast action) . Its a pretty forgiving rod when using lures for 3/8 to 1 oz. lures. Its rated down to 1/4 oz but i have not tried this weight
Re: Dobyns Crankbait Rod
I use the 684CB for all the baits you just mentioned down to the MB 110's and it works great. If you're like me, I like the shorter rod for my jerkbaits and a little longer for cranks, but I use the 684cb for both. I am working with a couple of dealers in Arkansas now to hopefully have Dobyns rods by Jan. If not, www.deloscustomtackleshack.com is stocking them now and they are a little closer to you and offer free shipping!
Oh Well,maybe another day!!!

I use the 704CB for lighter crankbaits and smaller ripbaits like the Stacie or Mann's Baby 1-Minus. I use a 705CB for heavier applications like spooks and big ripbaits. These 2 rods cover almost all my treble hook hardbaits, including traps, poppers and some of my blades baits as well.
