Re: Dobyns 705 CB glass
Remember, when talking about which rod is better, the answers you get will be completely subjective.
Having used both the 705CB Glass & the 705CBMF Glass, I prefer the 'fast' action rod. Keep in mind that even though it is listed as a fast action that rating is relative. Perhaps it should be listed as 'fast for a glass rod'. In other words, you shouldn't equate the 705CB Glass' fast as the fast for a graphite rod. It is much slower in action akin to a mod/fast graphite (in general terms). It would be correct to assume that the 705CBMF Glass has a slower action than a graphite (crankbait) rod with a mod/fast action. I found the moderate version to have too slow an action for my taste.
The things I like/want the rod to do worked better with the fast rod (705CB Glass) vs the moderate/fast (705CBMF Glass). Shallow cranking, med depth (to 10') cranking, ripbaits & topwaters. I have also used it for deep cranks (DD22) & found it worked fine.
Others have stated that the MF model is similar to the Lami SR705. Having not spent a lot of time with the Lami, I don't feel qualified to comment.

Re: Dobyns 705 CB glass
Dbass I have both rods you are asking about and personally feel more comfortable with the 705CB Glass fast action in most cases. I am a rep with Dobyns staff and would be happy to meet you if convenient and allow you to try both if possible. I am in San Mateo area. I would also be willing to find these rods in a shop close to you if you are unable to do so. Please let me know if my help is needed. I assure you they are both great rods but get what is best for your comfort. Thanks for your interest.
