DIY rod tube for flying?
DIY rod tube for flying?
I’m going to fly to TN and want to bring some rods to fish. They are all one piece Dobyns rods. Anyone ever made a rod tube from schedule 40 PVC and checked it on a flight without paying an oversized luggage fee?
Re: DIY rod tube for flying?
I have done the same to Belize, Texas and Florida.
I wrap them into a sheet individually and then stuff em in the tube. Glue on a threaded end cap and label the heck out of it. One I also included an okie shoulder strap. It has been a while but have never paid for extra charges. Not sure now a days though. On arrival you will need to go to the luggage office by the bag claims to retrieve. It will be with the golf clubs and strollers. lol

I send mine UPS. To wherever I’m staying. Most airlines will inspect the package and break your rod tips.

I’ve used the Bazzuka a couple times for trips. Looking to take it again to Hawaii in June. Anyone know what the extra baggage cost is now a days ?

I have shipped up to 7 rods (both fresh and salt) in a bazuka holder to New England multiple times, and packaged up my reels and baits using FEDEX ground. Never had a problem. I would contact where your staying and tell them the dates to expect your packages. Most places are very accommodating.
