Difference between Yamalube 2M & 2W?

Post by BassNCop »

Is there a difference? I read the entire bottle on both and couldn't see a difference. I have been using 2W for years now and someone gave me 5 gallons of 2M. Am I ok to use it in a Merc 225 efi?

the only differences I am aware of are 2W was made for Waverunners and Sport engines (the Jazz, jetboats, etc) and the 2M was specifically designed for Outboards. This is kinda funny, I run a Yammy and use Merc Premium Plus exclusively.

I'll take that number from you....please. The 2W had been used exclusively by the previous owner. I checked with Mercury certified mechanics and they all recommended the 2W. Runs great....sure hate to change now.

found this for you,

Yamaha Yamalube® 2-W

2-Stroke Engine Oil Semi-Synthetic Injector Oil for WaveRunners and Yamaha Sport Boats.
Yamalube 2-W was designed to provide Yamaha owners with precision-blended oil for their WaveRunner and inboard jet-powered Yamaha boat engines. Yamaha chooses only the finest lubricants in formulating these oils.

Yamalube 2-M
2-Stroke Engine Oil Semi-Synthetic Injector Oil For Outboard Motors:
Naturally, any outboard oil should be NMMA TC-W3® approved. Yamalube oils are so good they have actually been used as the test oil for many of the TC-W3® ratings! That means that all other TC-W3® oils had to measure up to our high standards.

Extreme Performance Formula:
An exclusive additive blend works to guard against power robbing ring stick and carbon build up, while special additives minimize wear. This oil has been designed for the most grueling conditions your outboard faces. Whether it's extended full-throttle operation, or engine pushing "out of the hole" acceleration, or even hour after hour of trolling, this oil stands up to the test. With this kind of extreme performance ability, Yamalube 2-M offers the best everyday protection, too.

That short article helps. At least I won't be affraid to use the 2M. Ken threw me a curve though. He believes the 2M is for motorcycles. Not sure where that came from though.

I'd also like to know where I can buy either 2W or 2M in bulk (cheaper)? The price of oil has gone crazy!

2W is a synthetic oil and 2M is not. You are not to mix these two oils in the reservoir. You can change over but only once the reservoir is empty. With that being said I think I'll continue to burn 2W....it runs great so why change.
