Yamamoto single tailed grubs. smoke or white color fished on light line on a darter head. I use these on rip/rap banks on the delta. catches a lot of fish usually have to weed through em to get a limit of keepers. but it sure is fun for the kids!

Just about any soft plastic bait can be used on a darter head..They can be used everywhere you fish..One of my favorites is using smallie beavers..I have heard of many dart heading as a good technique on the Delta, although I have yet to try it there..I know it is a great bait for spot lakes..

With my right in a cast it's time consuming to answer this post.
Darts are a finnesse jig shaped like a bullet head, except a 90 degree bend hook eye at the top and barbed to hold soft plastics.
it's not a shaky or ball head.
Darts are ideally suited for suspended bass or school bass feeding on bait fish.
Search the site for the late Dick Trask, I believe his video is still available.
Owner (Ultra) and Gamakatsu (Darter 26) offer good darter head jigs. 1/8 & 3/16 oz used with 4" to 6" curl tail worms like Roboworms or a ring style work good fished on 5 to 8 # FC.
Expose hook the worm and keep it as straight as possible.
Cast out a little further then the depth you meter the bass, let the jig fall on a controlled slack line, swinging into the depth the fish holding....watch for line movement. Retrieve using a slow motion jerk bait technique.

For lake fishing they are great. Any type of plastic as listed above will work. I usually will throw them out and let them fall on a slack line, when the weight hits the bottom shake it in place and lift up slowly and feel for the weight of a fish. If there is nothing there slowly swim it along the bottom, if it hits a rock shake it in place thenswim it along, then repeat. Don't forget to fish it slowly.

When I really learn to fish the Darter Heads was from the back seat fishing as a Co-Angler.

The first time was with Pro Thanh Le at Lake Mead (he won a boat at that tournament), he hook me up with a darter head with a “Tube-Bait”. The way that Tube would circle on the down fall you could see the fish coming up to take it. That is a great combo darter head and a Tube. Since then I have been adding a “Buck-Shot Rattles” to make noise when I’m on the bottom.

The next lesson came from Pro Allan Huth at Lake Shasta. He showed me to use the darter head with a Robo Worm working it from the shore back to the boat, from the deep back to the shore moving it back up slowly, and over points.

Since then I have been using 5 inch Yamamoto Double Tail Skirted Grub or the 5 inch Yum skirted twin tail Gonzo Grub mostly at Berryessa, Don Pedro, and Oroville. I only used the Darter Head once on the Delta and that was in the back of Diso.

I use the Darter Head in 1/8, 3/16, and 1/4 oz. In fact I will be using the above three this Saturday at the Nutcase at Berryessa.

One cool thing you can get with a dart head and a tube, is a spiral sink. The bait will make a circle on the way to the bottom. You might have to fiddle with the rigging a bit to get the right action. Its a good thing around docks, or dock fingers.

One other neat feature to a dart head, is if its too heavy you can just nip some lead off with your dykes and lighten it up. That way you don't have to keep buying every size, and dedicating space to it in the tackle box.

My go to dart heads are the Limit Lure dart heads in 1/8th oz tipped with a Pro Worms Fat Paddle Tail worm in Pearl. I then vary sizes and color of the pro worm paddle tail, this worm for me is perfect in terms of action, bulk, profile.

Next would be Robo Worms in phantom purple or sexy shad, and the lil beaver at times can be the deal.

Robo worms, twin tail, and single tail hula grubs, leach style plastics. All small plastics..

I prefer 1/8 for size mostly!

Tubes, worms, sindle and double tail grubs, skirted grubs, and don't forget your small swimbaits like sassy shad types.

When useing it for tube fishing, try not putting the head all the way to the front of the tube. I have found that by putting the end of the dart head about 1/4" back from the front of the tube you get a bigger spiral and get more bites this way than putting all the way to the front of the tube.

With darts you want a light weight well balanced 6 1/2 to 7' rod, 3 power fast action that can cast 1/8 oz jigs on 6 lb FC line; spinning or casting, which ever you are more comfortable using.

Dobyns dx743sf with a shimano Sahara 3000, 6lb p-line halo fluoro. I like the limit dartheads as well and start in 1/8 ounce.
Some favorite baits are the kalins and yamamoto grubs, roboworm straight tails, pro worms, reapers, and small swimbaits as well. I'll also throw a 3/16 or 1/4 ounce head if I'm fishing deeper than 40 feet.
