Dancin' Eel???

Post by Smile_n_Jax »

Watching shows this weekend I saw Bill Dance and Rolin Martin throwing the Yum Dancin' Eel. Interesting concept of combining a sinking crankbait with live plastic. Anyone out here used them? What results? What sizes and colors?

Back in the 80s that lure was called "Dance's Eel." And during the 70s, Storm had a similar lure in the Tubby/Lil Tubby series...

I throw the eel at certain small lakes and ponds and tear em up on it.
Other places I can't buy a fish off the thing.

Years and years ago when I was dumb enough to believe everything Bill Dance said I bought two of them. He said it was by fasr the best lure he had ever used and we all know Bill wouldn't fib to us. After a month of using it and nary a strike I retired them and began to have serious doubts about Bill's credibility. It was at this point that a pro friend of mine told me that some Bass fishermen can be bough if the money is right. Imagin my surprise at this.

There has never been a bass lure made that doesn't work..Of course some work a lot better than others..Some seem to be very successful in the hands of just about any fisherman other than myself..Others, even I can and have caught fish on them..Just looking at the Dancin' Eel, I can see no reasons it shouldn't catch fish, if used in the right place at the right time..Of course you could say that about any lure out there..Right off the bat, I would think they probably could be very effective, especially as I don't own a single one of them..It always seems the lures I don't own are the ones catching the fish..

I bought quite a few in the 80's...caught a few fish here and there on them...nothing consistent.

My buddy did loose a toad on it though...I was surprised.
