clear lake
I know some guys don't want to give out secrets, but planning a trip to Clear lake with a friend from So Cal. can anyone provide where is a safe ramp, place to stay? How about some tips on fishing. Any sites that posts reports?
Re: clear lake
there is a guy on YouTube named Clear Lake guide service, he posts all the conditions, talks about ramps and the fishing.
Re: clear lake
I’d recommend the Skylark Motel in Lakeport. It’s very close to the 5th Street launch ramp. 5th Street will likely be the last ramp to be usable as the water level drops. I’d also suggest you plan your trip very soon given the dropping water level. Sounds like this might be your first trip to Clear Lake? You might consider hiring Ross England at Clear Lake Guide Service your first day of fishing. It will give you a good idea of areas and baits working at that particular time. You can then fish the remainder of days on your own using the information you’ll learn spending a day with Ross. I spent a week there two weeks ago and found fishing pretty tough. That’s fishing! Good luck!
Re: clear lake
A second option to us is Bullards Bar. Never been there.
Re: clear lake
Bullards Bar is producing lots of small (10-12") bass, but there is always the chance of a big spotted bass. There is no lodging close to Bullards Bar. If you want a lot of action for some hard pulling spots I would suggest either Oroville or New Melones. Or if you want to go further North you can catch 100 a day at Shasta..

Clear Lake fishing tips.....
......There are 127 pages worth of lake reports that go back a dozen years or more on this site. Go look up and read the lake reports for Clear Lake that best match your time frame and water level. You can easily work it from there. I do believe if a person wanted to only catch fish on any given bait at Clear Lake all you need to do is keep throwing it until you catch a fish....Red white and blue whopper plopper....Just keep casting...Tungsten jig with yamamoto craw trailer...just keep casting. A wonderful place to take a SoCal fisherman as the amount of targets alone will blow their mind. Have a good trip...Skylark and Ross England would be my choices as well.

Definitely fish clear lake over Bullards. Finesse tactics and jackhammers will prove effective anywhere. Get out at 5am and topwater will be money!
Re: clear lake
Early mornings and late nights are the best times to go bass fishing on Clear Lake. Great time to use my night vision binoculars. When the light is dimmed, bass bites hard. Between dawn and 2 hours after sunrise, or 2 hours before sunset until twilight, fish the lake. Anglers who fish the lake have historically mostly targeted bass. A black 10 inch worm or a huge black jig is my go-to bait for night fishing up at Clear Lake. You could use colorado black spinnerbaits or wake baits, but my greatest luck and nearly guarantee is with rocks, tules, and huge plastics. Best of luck and have fun out there.
Re: clear lake
A friend of mine from out of state and I met Ross a couple of days before we fished with him. He showed us spots on a paper Map and gave us some baits to try. Good info, then we fished with him and had a great time, I caught a smallie that he said was the biggest he has ever seen from there. Best guide I have ever fished with.
