Cheaters?

Post by Bret118 »

Came across this while practicing for next weekends future pro tour at lake McClure Found it March 27th, the same day new gen was out there. I didn't see anyone actually pull fish off of it so I can't point fingers. There has been many tournaments out there lately so who knows who was using it. As a tournament angler is sucks to know someone out there is cheating.

Hard to think of anything that would be for other than cheating
With that set up you would think they would get caught It must have stuck out like a sore thumb when you found it

One to the reasons I quit participating in tournaments. Where there is money involved....there will be cheaters. This one is too close to home!

Time of day you found it? Probably their first stop to get the fish off of it. Too bad

You should have taken pictures, gotten GPS coordinates of where it was found, return it where you found it, not post online, and report it to the DFG. Hopefully they can have done a stakout and catch these scumbags red-handed.

It's odd they left the entire rig floating. Seems like if they were going to abandon it they would have cut the string.
How often does NewJen do Polygraph's?

It was pretty well hidden. The big bottle wasn't visible and the small bottle just looked like some floating trash. I barely noticed the braid tied to it. My guess is they wanted to use it again in the future but couldn't risk having it in the boat during weigh in. I'm sure they would have came back for it later.

From their web site....."subject to random"

I think most tournaments have this wording in their rules.
I wish tests would be given to top 5 in all tournaments but the cost of these tests, which the funds would come out of the pay backs I'm sure and the time to do these after the tournament is over would push the awards to way late in the day/evening. I don't think a lot of tests are being performed..sadly

29. POLYGRAPH:
All contestants are subject to random polygraph testing, however, should you choose
to fish a team tournament alone and you win more than $1,000, you will be REQUIRED
to pass a polygraph test prior to receiving your check. The cost of the polygraph,
approximately $300, will be deducted from your winnings. A failed polygraph is
grounds for disqualification and forfeiture of any winnings. Failure to submit, or a
“refusal”, to any polygraph request is grounds for disqualification and forfeiture of any
winnings. Contestant/s will be given 14 calendar days to schedule a polygraph
examination with the NewJen Bass designated examiner. The examination must be
completed within 30 calendar days from the date of the event or it will be considered a
“refusal”.
Any contestant who has failed a polygraph test for cheating or has refused testing for
a bass fishing tournament shall not be eligible to compete in NewJen Bass events.
Polygraph and voice stress testing is performed at the discretion of the tournament
director.

So only guys that fish alone that win more than a grand are required to take a poly. That ought to weed out the cheaters.
I saw on tv years back that all you have to do to beat the poly exam is to clinch your butt cheeks when you're telling a lie. There's been plenty of people thrown in jail for life that have told the truth but failed the exam.

If guys want to cheat its going to happen and frankly it wouldn't be that hard. The guys that have been caught have just been plain stupid after doing it for so long they just get lax.

Yes because polygraphs are a proven science. What a joke... If you suspect someone is cheating there are other ways to figure them out. There are plenty of guys out there that can win tournaments by themselves, and you want them to pay for something they legitimately won.

In the future, my recommendation is to take many pictures, contact DFG along with any suspected tournament orgs and leave the device in place and in tact. That way DFG can monitor it and hopefully catch anyone involved in foul play. No excuses for cheaters - but the best recourse is to catch them in the act and notify the authorities and TD's.

There was a time I bought a boat with the side locker rigged as a live well. I think it happens more than people want to think it does.

I dont fish tournaments and this is one of the reasons. The first reason is losing my first tournament by .01 of a ounce as I watched lots of water go on the scale.

I don't think extra water in a weight bag is considered cheating. It is going to happen with plastic bags that don't get dried out, its just part of the game I guess. .01 of a oz of water in a bag is a tough call. Even the newer mesh bags drag a lot of water to the scales with them..

At least you got 2nd.

Meh we were the new guys and never fished a tournament. I caught a 5 1/2 and 3lber at Oroville. Yeah got first and second big fish won a rod and cashed a check. I guess ya had to be there to understand no one was happy with the new guys coming to the scales.
Is what it is and I personally think we won by a larger margin. Tournaments aren't for me.

I have noticed that emptying the tub on the scale is a rather casual operation (as not always done). Since each weigh in bag is the same why not use a hanging type scale with a set time (say 15 seconds?) from water to weigh in?
Not a tournament guy, just askin.

I started fishing tourneys, my second tournament I won big fish and second place, fishing alone. The undertones from that day forward weren’t welcoming from the coward(s) who spewed rumors. It was one of the best days of my life.. but because I didn’t know anybody there, they figured I cheated. Apparently you have to pay dues and watch someone else win for awhile, before you can show them you’re better than they are.
Cheaters exist, and their names should be posted publicly.
