CASTING INTO THE WIND

Post by Phil »

Do they yet make a casting reel you can cast into the wind with confidence like a spinnig reel; without the forever backlash ??

I use Quantums, which have an external brake adjustment, so when I'm throwing into the wind, I can easily tighten down the brakes. I lose distance, but I've thrown blades and cranks into the best wind Cachuma has to offer. Some other baitcasters have the same external feature. I've used Diawas, too, and the same thing holds true.
Of course, a heavy lure and a heavy thumb doesn't hurt.

Not really, but if you use a low cast, heavier weight and do not try to kill the cast, you can do a fair job with any of the good name brand reels. i.e. curados, abu, quantum, etc. Bill K

Shimano makes a baitcaster that has a computer in it. It makes adjustments every 1/100th of a second. It is very hard to backlash this reel, even when using light weights. I have fished with this reel and surprisingly, you can also get good distance. The downside? The reel costs $500. I forgot the model but I know Phil's in Redding carries them..

That'd be the Calcutta TE DC reel. It's a round baitcaster and available in 100, 200, and 250 sizes. And yes, it's quite pricey.
