can you mix two types of rishfinders on the same boat?

Post by froteur »

i'm about to buy a boat that has two lowrance 125 units (of course on the bow and on the console). these units are black and white. i also have a color humminbird (343) that i bought as a portable unit laying around the house.

so, if i wanted to, can i mix a humminbird and a lowrance on the same boat?

i probably won't cuz the lowrance has higher resolution but i was still wonderin.

thanks.

Yes

You can have different brands of GPS/fishfinders, in fact you should not get interference while running both units with two different systems.

You dont need a stinking Fish finder Perry..

Sell your Lowrance....keep the cheap Bird for water depth! buy more custom painted lures with your lowrance money.. and the world will be a better place!

The custom lures will find the fish.. and the bird will keep your boat insurance agent happy!

Gotta have the lowrance on the console. That way, you get the best of both worlds--catch big fish with custom baits and mark the spot with GPS so you can go back for more!!

You most certainly can install multiple depth finders from different companies, but i would make sure you have a reason. I have lowrance on the bow and console and love it because they are linked up to one another to share waypoints and information.

I also have a humminbird unit but I mainly use it for side-immaging. I wouldn't add the humminbird without that feature because I wouldn't see the benefit. However, anyway you put it you can, but you will have another transducer and wires that can cause some interference with one graph and the other.

Froteur,
Just to be clear for you, since everyone else glanced over this; Yes, you can have 2 different kinds of fishfinders on 1 boat, but its NOT just plug -n- play.

To install the humminbird, you will have to re-wire for power and install the humminbird transducer on your transom. It will not work with the Lowrance transducer. Also, there is no mechanism to link the 2 different devices, so you can not have a network and share information from one to the other.

Staying with the same type at the bow and console is more logical, if nothing more than from the maintenance and servicability. It sure makes it easier when upgrading later too; if you stay with the same brand.

Hope that clarifies the issues for you.
