Post by Jason P »

Has anyone read any of the books written by Buck Perry, trying to get some feedback, I have heard they are great for learning about structure fishing. Any info would be great thanks.

Book on structure fishing and found it very informative..His is the authorative word on understanding a body of water, it structure, cover and so forth..In a sense he was ahead of his time in understanding and taking advantage of everything in the water to find and catch bass..

Mac's absolutely right. Perry's book, Spoonplugging, explains the concept of structure fishing in great depth and detail. It was the foundation for many books and articles that followed. If you want to get it from the "horse's mouth," reading Perry's books (there were others in his formal teaching program on structure fishing) is the way to do it.

Spoonplugging

I read "The Green Book" back in the 70's, when Buck Perry was well known & Fishing Facts was an awesome magazine. The book is interesting & you have to give Perry a lot of credit for some innovative thinking. On the other hand, his views can be a bit too limiting, in that they seem to overemphasize structure as being the prime determinant in locating fish, with too little thought given to habitat. Also, his insistence that "deep water is the home of the fish" doesn't jibe well with current scientific thought on fish behavior.

In any case, though, his book, Spoonplugging, is well worth reading.
