Boat weight...

Post by Skunkedagain »

So i need new trailer tires, but can't tow my boat to a scale to get it's actual weight to figure out which tires I need...

Anybody venture a guess at what a 1987 Champion 18.2 foot bass boat with a 175 HP engine weighs?

Would it be a problem if I put tires that were rated for a heavier boat on? [/b]

When I put new rims and tires on my boat trailer, I did not have an idea as to the weight, so I just played it safe.

Play it safe and figure that your trailer/boat weighs about 1800 lbs. A standard 205/75R15 trailer tire has a weight rating of about 1200 lbs. so two of those, you're talking 2400 lb capacity, well over what you need.

That's why you see tandem axle rigs with big rims and low-profile tires, cause even though the tire may only have an 800 lb rating, three more tires makes all the difference.

Thanks guys. Ended up getting Load C, 1650 which gives me more than enough breathing room.
