Boat Carpet Alternative

I have an older aluminum Bass Tracker and the carpet is getting beat. I am thinking seriously of pulling up the carpet, prepping the floor, and then coating it with rubberized paint used for concrete decks.

I figure it will be easy to apply, durable and no-skid. I don't really care what it looks like, I'll use something light like tan to hide the dirt and keep it a bit cool.

Anyone try this? Thoughts or suggestions?

could also look into spray on bedliner. i saw that someone had that done, looked good, and easy to clean i would assume.

Good subject,I have a older bass boat and was thinking of replaceing the carpet on the front deck and back deck with a spray on liner.Can someone tell me the pro's and cons if any.I know the liner will be a little noisier.

It will also be hotter than carpeting

I don't think that would feel good on the knee also it would get hot and might be noise on a tracker

Pros:
Easy to put in, easy to clean, long lasting

Cons:
Hot, hard on knees and feet when standing for a long time, noisy?

Carpet isn't really that hard to redo but carpet vs spray in is a personal preference. Definitely some pros to it. Just depends which outweigh the other for you. I suppose you could always do spray in for awhile and if you don't like it lay carpet over it. That would be real soft to stand on for long periods of time too.

I was at the gym the other day pumping iron and was thinking about the rubber mat under the weights. I was thinking of using the rubber mat in place of the carpet. The only thing that I can think will be a negative is that it is black and hot in the summer. But it would be easy on the back and cover the noise! It would be a lot easier installing then carpet - Just an idea.

The prob with those mats is they are going to add a lot of weight to the boat, they wiill be super hot in the sun and the water will get under them and get trapped tthere. I thought about those mats like they use in kitchen restaurants with the holes in them, but again they are heavy. Just ended up redoing the carpet instead.

Something you could do which would potentially be costly but very cool would be put down some spray in or roll in coating like bedliner then mount snaps in the floor and have a thick carpet insert made with rubber backing on it that snaps in and out of the boat. U could either do one big piece for the entire floor or have it in sections. Actually if you know anyone that is good with a sewing machine u could make them urself for not too much $. That's what a lot of boat companies do these days is a nonskid fiberglass floor with snap in carpets. Makes it very easy to clean the boat floor and you can pull the carpet out to clean in or if you are going on a trip that you don't want to get the carpet messed up with mud or fish guts.

Anyone heard of Deckote? I used it or something similar to re-coat concrete patio decks in the past. Rolls on like really thick paint and has some grit to prevent skidding. They advertise boat decks as one potential use.

I DID MY champ w/tuff coat..you can buy it @ bass pro for $70 a gallon...i love it in place of carpet...i did mine in a tan color, and "IT IS NOT HOTTER THAN CARPET"... i fish all day, barefooted, and there is no problem w/it at all....i listened for all the pro/cons on here for about 8 months, then decided to try it for myself..."awesome"........

i would get most of the adhesive off..it comes w/a special roller for the application...i have a champ that is over 22 ft, and i used almost a gallon and a half...i triple coated most of it..come out and fish a poe mans and you will see it...make sure you mix the stuff up really good...when you buy it, most of the "texture" is @ the bottom of the gallon.."MIX GOOD"....apply a thin coat first..it wont start to look good until the 2nd coat...

I would think that water would collect with the bed liner type spray ons.. No where for it to soak in so you will need drains for rainy days.

There is a product called Gayco. Not sure on the spelling. It's what they coat decks and houseboats with. Ptetty good stuff. Expensive too! Do NOT get the latex shi* You only want the two part mix.

The stuff I used on my concrete deck last time is called Safe-T-Deck. It doesn't have the rubber chips in it but a form of fine grit to prevent slipping. I have used it on wood as well.

They sell it a ACE Hardware. Very easy to apply.
