A friend of mine has been telling me that a 2 blade trolling motor prop performs better than a 3 blade, and its less drain on the batteries. Does anyone know it there is any truth to this?

Friendship is like peeing in your pants, everyone can see it, but only you can feel the true warmth.
Re: 2 blade vs. 3 blade
Hey buddy whats up ??
someone correct me if im wrong
2 blade = best for open water and speed
3 blade = best for weeds and muck fishing
I hear the newer kipawa prop is pretty good at both and provides best of both worlds and serves as a multi use.
as i said please someone correct me if i am wrong.

Re: 2 blade vs. 3 blade
As a general rule the two blade prop = more power but less weedless. Three and four blades = less power but more weedless.Lancer wrote:someone correct me if im wrong

An exception would be Minn Kota's Weedless Wedge props. They're two bladed but are very weedless and give lots of thrust at the same time.
Re: 2 blade vs. 3 blade
It depends, on a Minn-kota the 2-blade works the best. On the
motorguide the 3-blade seems to work better.

Re: 2 blade vs. 3 blade
I was told when I had an old trolling motor repaired that Minn-Kota is made for a two blade system and that the three blades cause some unusual wear and drain the batteries faster then usual. Just passing it along. No idea about the Motorguide.

Re: 2 blade vs. 3 blade
I've seen that device but I don't think the Minn Kota motors that come with Weedless Wedge props need any add-ons. I've plowed through some of the thickest Delta salad on high and have never had the blade foul up with weeds--the motor shaft will catch lots of weeds but that's another issue altogether.wooch wrote:Check out the "Shear Magic" for a little more efficiency for that Minnkota two blader. There was similar device on the market before the one you mentioned (I will admit to buying one), it was called the Jensu Blade if I remember correctly. All of those attachments are unecessary...
Re: 2 blade vs. 3 blade
2 blades on my minnkota and 2 blades on my spinnerbait ..
Re: 2 blade vs. 3 blade
Thanks for the tip on the "Shear Magic"... Gonna put one on my next Bass Pro order. I'm always fowling my weedless wedge prop in the delta. If this helps a little bit, it'll be worth it.
I was thinking of attaching some ginsu knife blades to the prop with some epoxy. Think I'll try this first.
I love to run up on those frog matts when it gets windy. Work that frog down wind and enjoy the slow drift. It's a jungle to get out of tho. This might help.

Re: 2 blade vs. 3 blade
Lance,
An additional difference in 2 blade props vs. 3 blade props that no one really mentioned is this:
3 blades are more stable when steering then 2 blades.
2 blades while on high will tend to roll hard left or right once they get off of center. whereas; 3 blade props tend to be more steering friendly when at speed and dont cause hard steering to the left or right.
Minnkotas have less of this problem, but still do it, and the Motorguides are the worst for it.
