Jerry Hansen is still in the biz.

He purchased Canyon Lures from Gary Garland last year and is doing very well. Jerry is the second best tube bait maker in the industry. Who's number one, you ask? Why that would be the man who invented the Gitzit, the late (and great) Bobby Garland, of course.

Jerry is around, but he doesn't own Canyon Plastics..he works for them. Jay Pennington and Bob Brown purchased Canyon Plastics from Gary Garland this past year. Jay and Bob hired Jerry to make baits up in Utah. He does!! Gary is still around and is in the shop everyday that he is not fishing (in Kingman).....Jerry has helped a ton in the production of the baits and in some design....he also is in the process of making the jig heads he used to make....but all of the plastic is Canyon's...Jay and Bob want to make sure that the "original" gitzit is not compromised in any way.....you can call the shop in Kingman and talk to Gary ( he will talk your ear off---in a good way) and get Jerry's number in Hurricane Utah...(800) 770-0575....we have a tackle store here in Vegas that has some of the old Big Boy Baits (mostly tubes)..if you want something let me know, I can check for you.....

Thanks for the update Brent...

...I certainly meant no disrespect to Gary, Jay, Bob, Jerry, or yourself. Now that you mention it, I recall Jerry telling me (at last year's Bass-a-Thon) that he left Yamamoto to go to work for Canyon Plastics and said nothing about buying the company. I apologize for the unintentional misrepresentation.

Ron..

I didn't think you were being disrespectful at all.....I just thought I would give you the scoop.....I couldn't be representing a better group of individuals...I am extremely thankful for knowing these pioneers in the tackle industry ( I hope that didn't make them feel old :D ).....I don't care about Jerry, but the others I do :D :D :D :D

As having been lucky enough to share a boat with Bobby & Garry Garland when we filmed the gitzit video, I'll add a couple of cents worth.

Miss Bobby and am sorry to see Garry getting out of the business although I understand why he is. Garry was one of my first sponsors when I got the Tora Tube thing going years ago. and he has stuck with me ever since. He is one of the nicest guys you'll find anywhere. And he is no slouch at making Gitzits. Fact is, Bobby thought it up, but Garry made the lion's share of them for years. Bobby promoted while Garry produced when they were partners.

All of this reminds me that I need to get in touch with Jerry. Met him at Fred Hall last Mar. and in talking mentioned a tube Garry and I developed but never went into production on. (another near miss that we could have done before Pat Garret, yada yada for you history buffs. lol) Need to re-start that conversation.
