best line for extreme cold weather

I am going to Alabama for a bass tourny in January. My partner told me to expect low teens for temps. He said that time of year you might get just 3-4 casts before the eyes on the rod freeze. My Question is Whats the best line for extreme cold? Braid Mono florocarbon? Any suggestions????

I would try braid with a floro leader. The braid should have a tendancy to cut through the ice and stay more limber. This is just my thoughts.

I have found three brands that work well with freezing weather, even when you have to dip your rod to free freezing guides. They have been P-Line, Seaguar and McCoy. I use mostly flouro in the
P-line & Seaguar( and have been trying the new Invizi by Seaquar)
and it is just fine. McCoy, does not have a flouro, but there good old Mean green is just great. Bill K

Braid will absorb and hold more water, therefore they tend to freeze..Of course any line will absorb some amount of water, but your mono's, hybrids, or flouro's will absorb less..I fished a tourney at Pickwick that time of the year, long ago and having to thaw the eyes of the rods was a real pain..expect a few more "professional over runs" than you normally get..

Thanks Andy, but I was thinking about launching the boat first and then getting to the bar untill about 9 or so then fishing. I am going to Lake Joe Wheeler in eastern Alabama. They have some world class smallmouth there and I cant wait. Taff V said to say hello

All McCoy products are silicone saturated so they don't absorb water. From the co-polymer to the braid, McCoy makes for an excellent ice fishing line.

Jigs Tackle.. I was really from the old school, but learned that old P-Line would not break or cause the problems some other lines, I had been useing would do when it was freezing cold, etc.
Main reason I started fishing with p-line and still do, alongwith the
other two I mentioned.. If you are interested Almanor is fishable, slow, but fishable, dam ramp open and not a lot of snow over on that side of the Mt. Bill K
As a side note, I have been useing some of Seaquar's new invisx and really like it, so far.

I was doing a job in Louisville, Ky the first week in January. I contacted a guy off a local website who took me to Cumberland for a day's fishing. It was 9 degrees when we hit the ramp at 7:30am and rose to a sweltering 19 degrees by 3 o'clock. I visited a local bass shop and purchased a spool of Seagar's 10 lb Fluoro. I don't know that a line could have performed any better, on the 14 smallies to 6 lbs I caught that day, than what the Seagar did. I tossed a 1/2 oz Hula jig all day down by the damn. Had no problems telling the difference between a bite and the rocky bottom. This line performed flawlessly and I would not hesitate to use it again under the same conditions.

I have used fluoro line in that cold of temp. and it worked fine but the guides still iced up so I sprayed the guides with a line treatment....the one made by blakemore I forget the name right now but it helped dramatically for me.
