Best hook for "Basstrix" or 5"-6" swimba

Post by set'em good »

I am sure this has been a topic before but I would like peoples opinions on the best hook for 5-6" swimbaits.

I finally broke down and bought a few packages of the basstrix 6" paddletails as usually I use the cheaper swimbait brands. I hooked one of them up with 5/0 Lakefork Ultimate Swimbait hook, second cast caught a nice fish.

O.k. they do work great BUT crap they do not last long. I caught two fish and the basstrix looked like it went through a war. Eye's falling out, ripped in multiple locations and color seems to change. Ohh, I will use it till it falls of the hook, because I am cheap.. But

Is there a better hook or way to rig these baits for longer longevity?

Thanks,

Get you a bottle of Mend-It and repair away..I wouldn't change the way you are rigging them, what you are doing is working..I have yet to even get a hit on one, and I have been rigging mine like you do..I just wish the fish were tearing them up..

Jim - These were recently released and I really like them, from the way they insert/hold to the ways you can customize them.

I agree with Gator on the BladeRunner hooks...they are the best hook design for straight tracking and hooking.

OK maybe someone can shed some insight on the BladeRunner hook....... I haven't got into the Basstrix craze but I have a few bags of imitators that so far have only seen my swimming pool....

I picked up a pack of the BladeRunner's at the Hook,, and when I was there another guy told me he had trouble getting the bait to run straight using them. I figured he just did something wrong..

Well I can seem to get the bait to run stright either, it always wants to lay over on one side :? I read the little info insert and even watched the video on swimbait Nation but I still can get it right.........

seems like a really good idea though.... any helpful thoughts out there ....

We have a video up on the BladeRunner check it out here http://www.basstackledepot.com/bladerun ... thook.aspx

The Falcon Bait Jerker hook has been the most popular hook used for weedless rigs but another option is the Mr. Blitz Toad Toter hook http://www.basstackledepot.com/mrblitzt ... hooks.aspx

IF YOU WANT TO MAKE YOUR BAITS LAST LONGER AND INCREASE HOOKUPS WEEDLESS.. This item here is hard to beat. http://www.basstackledepot.com/lunkerluretubelok.aspx It keeps the head of the bait from sliding into the gap and reduces the trauma on the bait also.

Falcon 6/0 hooks. They last for several fish. Then save the basstrix, take it home and mend it!!! great action, and good hook sets.
