best frog braid?

Post by bpm2000 »

Getting pretty deep into the frog game these days - pretty much splitting time between the frogs and swimbaits!

So far I have used 55lb tuf-line XP and 80lb stren. The stren was a bit too thick, I dont get the casting distance like I was getting with the Tufline. The tuf line was a PITA to get out on the occasional lash however since it isnt the round/coated type of line like the stren and powerpro type lines are.

What is the best braid you have found for frogging as far as manageability and casting? I am using a Revo SX so I'd like to keep it in the 50-65 lb range for line capacity purposes. Also must come in moss/green, if only for my sanity and confidence.

thx much!

I am a 65lb power pro guy too. BUT i put some of the 50# steath camo spiderwire they gave out at the snag proof tourny the other day when i got a backlash that was not coming out and I gotta say its soft and casts really nice!! Caught a bunch of fish with it too.
I wish it was 65lb though.

I use 10# Power Pro for my spinning reels, but I use Spiderwire Stealth (usually moss green) for my casting braid needs, including spooks, buzzbaits and frogs - soft, supple and long-lasting.

I've upped the 65 Power Pro to 80, per John Kerr and glad I did. It breaks a bit less as it does get worn down working trees and tulles fairly quick. Casts as well too.

Big tip: Dobyn's taught me (at a lecture down here) to carry a large black marker and re-dye the end of the line (3 foot) every hour or so (he says he has 'en spread all over his boat). Made a big difference on the numbers and in that respect it would not matter if you used green or red (but I use green moss usually).

All I need to get into the money would be the four I usually get along with a 20# kicker.

Look at Hi-Seas Braid, been using it since Oct of last year...65# and I use it with swimbaits and Jigs here on the Delta. You can find it at Tacklewarehouse.

I used tuff line -65lb, no problems..

if you are going to use the smaller braid size 10 - 30lb, I'd say spend a little extra and go suffix, smoother finish and easier to cast.

But it you and just going to go out and try to get KERMIT killed then power pro 50, 65 and 80 is the way to go.

I think your line will only break more often due to your own laziness when it comes to retying.

Hands down 65lb "Suffix Performance Braid", god this braid is sweet. I am putting it on just about everything now, switching between 30lb and 65lb. I have 65 on my frog rod. I have used "power pro" and hatted it, was not as smooth as Suffix but that is just my opinion.

McCoy Braid

I really like the strength and casting distance I get with 65lb McCoy Mean Green Braid. The coating doesn't wear off easily so you spend less time coloring your line.
