Best drop shot rod?
Best drop shot rod?
I'm looking at Loomis, Doybns, and the Powell. Anybody that has used these I would love to hear what you have to say.
Re: Best drop shot rod?
Though its not what you were asking, have you considered the Lamiglas, XPS 662 or 702 Drop Shot Rods?

Haggy,
Go with the Dobyns. Now I for one dont use spiining gear for DS. The rod of choise if you were to use bait casting rods for me is the DX 702C. Its got great action and the sensitivity on it to me is second to none! If you would like to try out my selection of rods let me know. My whole week is open and will be happy to let you use the rods. I hope this helps!

Re: Best drop shot rod?
Man, thanks for the offer. I'm about 5 hours from the delta and don't see myself getting there anytime soon. The offer is much appreciated though. Has anyone used all three rods and can tell me why they like one over the others?
Re: Best drop shot rod?
I haven't tried the others, but I do love my Loomis DSR822. The DSR820 is too whippy, but the 822 has really good backbone.
I also have two of the Cielo dropshot rods, with the titanium tip, and really like them.
Good luck.

Shimano Crucials are very nice and alot cheaper than the ones mentioned thus far.

Re: Best drop shot rod?
I have a Powell Drop Shot rod and it handles the job real well. Sorry but I don't have the other brands specified.
I do have a Kistler Drop shot rod and a Cameron rod I use for drop shotting and all of them also work well for the application. Thankfully all these rods have been great for me with most all fish that bit landed easily enough. I use bait casting rods for dropshotting on the Delta and Clear Lake and I use the spinning gear for the lakes.
Not sure how many folks you're going to find that have use all three rods you mentioned but I do wish you well.

Re: Best drop shot rod?
I've still yet to use my Cumara CUCX72M. It's a super light rod, has a really comfortable foam handle and small foregrip for your middle finger. Gonna have a go with it this weekend. Gonna use it for lighter jigs and t-rigs and see how the d-shot works out. As for spinning d-shot rods I really like my Powell 702ML.TTCal wrote:That would be the Cumara ...Slippy wrote:Shimano has a new rod out also i cant remember the name but its $199 and really light.

I'm an ex Loomis user too, but now use almost all Powell. The 681LEF is the best light-line dropshotting rod I've ever used. I use mine w/ 5 or 6lb P-Line. Re: Best drop shot rod?
I use ST CROIX AVID series 6'8" med xtra fast in both spinning and baitcasting on all lakes and delta/ clearlake and i love them i feel everything and for $ 135 you can't complain. i do however like the new cumara rods from shimano or the crucials and they have the best warranty if you plan on beating your rods to death go with a shimano over the counter replacement can't be beat !
