I was looking for one in this price range and someone suggested a BPS Extreme combo, so I ordered it.

I have to say that I'm really happy with it. 9 ball bearings and smooth as can be. I have no comparison except for a Abu garcia Ambassador, which I do not like much (the spool realease is not positioned directly behind the line and spool, but up to the right, which is strange to me).

I'm not great at Bassin', but I will venture to say that the BPS Extreme is a decent rod/reel for $99.

My $.02

There are 2 that I can think of and you will probably get this answer from alot of people.

Abu Garcia Revo SX(149.99$)
or
Shimano Curado CU200B.

In my opinion the best 2 bait casters. The only problem is that the CU200B has been discontinued and you will more then likely have to settle for a used one. But it will probably only cost ya about 80$ I hope this helps!!

2 of the more commonly known ones I'd recommend, are the Pflueger President and Shimano Citica. Both solid choices and solid reels! I would have to say though, out of all the reels I've tried around $100, my Bass Pro Shops Rick Clunn baitcaster is the best!! I plan on getting one or two more. I have the one w/ the 7.1:1 gear ratio and love the thing, not to mention it looks great on my Powell!! Lots of good reels out there nowadays other than Shimano.

I have a Citica, & I think my $100 Revo S is a better reel...

Quantums are a bit on the heavy side...but the rebates make them feel a bit lighter...

I wonder with the rebates from Shimano & Quantum....is someone out there gaining market share on 'em?.....

Shimano Citica or BPS Extreme, although the Quantum Accurist PT also seems to be a quality product.

I personally stay away from Abu, I had an unpleasant experience a few years back trying to get an Eon...left a totally bitter taste in my mouth. In retrospect though, I'm glad I didn't end up with the Eon...I hear it turned out to be a real train wreck.

Pflueger President I have three of them and they have more capability than I can keep up with , I just bought the Pflueger Supreme with the magnetic braking system and lighter than the Pres. just started to play around with that one and I really like it got all of them off Ebay new for around $90 each plus $10 for shipping so right at $100 ea.

revo-s. you'll be hard pressed to find a reel that does everything as well as this reel for 100 bucks. the revo-s is my choice to replace my old curados. small, palms easily, casts incredibly smooth, smooth drag, great cast control, a real good fit and finish. I lke my citica, but I like the revo a lot more. good luck there are a lot of reels to look at.

with the $30.00 rebate right now your looking at $89.00.
In my educated opinion, hands down the best value on the market right now, and is backed by one of the best customer service departments in the business, and that's FACT, not opinion.

Merry Christmas!

I just sold all of my green Curados and replaced them with Abu Garcia Revo S models. Just an awesome reel! I just bought 7 of them. Not much difference between the S and the SX. One ball bearing less and no external magnetic brake control on the S...

Shimano Citca- I love how smooth this reel casts and how smoth the drag is. I mean I can throw a C-Rig without a backlash!!! The only downfall with this reel is that it is a bit heavy and wide(I like the fact that it is wider) With the current rebate program with Shimano you cant go wrong!

PS I have no other new reels to compare it to, I just know I purchased this reel about two months ago and LOVE IT!

I have tried them all and the old green CURADO is hands down the best.

Now i just buy the Citica 100's. I beleive they are built on the same platform as the old curado 100... only difference is 1 less bearing(I THINK).

Tuna,
do yourself a favor and put up $30 more bucks and call Cabela's get yourself two of the cabela's tournament ZX HS reels. these reels are the smoothest reels I have ever used and at $89.99 a pop they blow the old and new curado out of the water.

Hands down the Revo sx and stx are the smoothest reels out there. I have used curado and citco for years and the Revo blows them away. I've been trading out all of my reels, since I bought my first Revo. I talked all my faithful curado buddies into buying one, and they'll tell you the same.

Now you guys went and did it. I was doing fine with my reels until reading this thread, should have stayed in the southern board where I belong (except I get way more good tips on catching the greenbacks up here 8) ).

The Revo Sx's seem to win hands down in overall comments so I did a search on it, some research, and a price check on E-bay. Now I've got one in transit, brand new in box, for $129 no tax or shipping charge, from back east. Can't wait to see this little wonder.

I've got Curados and Advantage's, and while both are great, are getting worn down pretty good (100 yard casts are down to 100 feet, even after a cleaning  ). When you fish two times a week, all day long, after a few years they just don't seem to work as well!!? :? 8)

Besides, I needed an after-Christmas present to myself, I just did'nt know it. Luckily, the wife is already over it too.

Definitely the Abu Garcia Revo SX. Its super smooth on the cast and retrieve and has a very powerful, smooth drag system.
