I have to second the vote for the Currado's. I have 3 of them that I bought between '97-'99 and I just had all three tuned up and they are still kickin a$$!

I've got the chronarch super frees, the curado 101b, 201BSF. These are great reels no doubt. My greatest reels of all time up to this point are Shimano antares ar (calais 100 japan) and the Conquest 101. The antares has ridiculus free spool and super smooth performance. The conquest is just a work of art and a model of consistency. Both these are as good as it gets in my book. If you've got the extra cake to spend on these you will not be dissapointed.

I still have one I bought over 10 years ago and it's like a timex, it takes a lickin and keeps on tickin. It's the only Shimano I have left, the rest are Daiwas.

I agree - The Chronarch SF is still my favorite.

The one older reel that still makes my "starting rotation"... Bantam Coriolis, been using it for atleast 10 years, and still casts like new.

Can't go without giving some love for the Daiwa PS2, reel was in production forever, without any major modifications.

Best bang for the buck was the curado. I have both the curado and chronarch and feel that the curado can be put up against almost any other reel.

Best baitcaster reel ever, hasn't been made yet IMO. lol

Don't get me wrong, I own 6 left handed Curados and I wish I had 10 more. Fantastic reel and the price is right. My one arguement with them is the D*** thumb bar. I much prefer the thumb release on the side for any baitcaster. Particularly for flipping and pitching. When I'm in close and setting on a big fish, too many times my thumb has slipped, causing me to explode the reel. :-(

I also own maybe 15 of the old Shimano Black Magnums. I keep reconstructing these because of the side thumb release. They would have been my perfect reel if it weren't for a design flaw in the yoke / pinion gear assembly. Maybe its because I have put so many miles on them but they don't always fully engage in free spool. In that case it goes very quickly from a great reel to a brass shavings generator. lol But as long as I can keep rebuilding them...

And to answer the next upcoming question.
My favorite spinning reel. Diawa SS1300. Hands down the best finesse reel out there for the money IMO. LOVE those things. None of mine have ever given me any grief at all and I've had some of them for years now.

My 2 cents.

It's gotta be the green Curado 200B- epic reel, battle tested and still rolling after many years- For me, my favorite reel is the Chronarch 100MG, Manas, I want that one back you "borrowed" 4 years ago, they don't make them any more!

Those green Curados are an industry standard, after they replaced the red tomato Curado- great reel for the checkers, too- I have a book shelf filled with Bantams, old 100s, an original Lew's BB1, Black Magnums, etc- even the two speed Magnums that Fred Archer invented when he was running Shimano-

I like the reels of today, the Curado 200DHSV, Mg50, Curado 300DSV
from daiwa TDZ-103H and the ZILLION but I think the STEEZ is by far the best reel ever made
