Berkeley Fireline Crystal

Post by programgeeks »

Just wondering what your guy's opion is on Berkeley's Fireline Crystal line. The majority of my my reels are spooled w/ 40 lb test Power Pro braid, which I'm very pleased with, but was given 4 spools of 8 lb test 300 yards of Fireline Crystal and may consider using it. What do you guys think?

Use it for your dropshot. I have started using a braid main line with a yard or so topshot as my dropshot rig. I make the connection with a tiny Spro swivel. Little tired of stripping off yards of expensive flouro before the next tournament. The braid does not fatigue. As far as the Fireline, if it wasn't given to me I would not use it. PowerPro is a rounder product. I did use the 14lb test Fireline tied direct to the hook at Falcon. It worked great. Caught as many fish as my practice partner did with the Flouro. It is just a bit lumpy. I would not use it direct in a clear water situation. Therefore the "crystal" attribute is moot with me.

When it first came out I was excited that it might be a superline that I could use in clear water without a leader but rather than being translucent it's more white in color. It's slightly less visible but nothing close to regular mono. Also, if I'm remembering right it still makes the irritating noise through your guides that regular fireline makes.

I have used the heavier stuff in when fishing jigs in Texas. My brother has it on all his dropshot rods and is very happy with it. That said he is in Texas and the lakes he fishes the most the water clarity in good conditions is 2-3 feet. From what I have been told they are comming out with a "Camo" color that is supposed to blend better than the white. I too use the braid and floro leader with the little Spro swivel sure saves time on the re-tie.

The crystal with a flouro leader works super on most all applications and with the crystal you get away from any and all memory of the line. The crystal is a milky white, not fully transparant, but works very well on both baitcasters and spin reels. Bill K :)
Fun fishing the country, each and every week.
