Bank fishing in Sacramento

Post by dimsumwong »

Hi,

I'm new to the board and pretty new to bass fishing. I'm heading up to Sacremento next week with the GF and was looking to squeeze in some fishing. I don't have a boat, so my choices are a little limited (teacher pay sucks). Anyway, I was wondering if there were nearby places (ideally <10-15 min drive from downtown Sac) that had some decent fishing. I would really appreciate some tips/advice.

Thanks in advance.

Mather Pond might be worth a try.

I banked fish last year for a while and Mather is more then 15minutes from dwntwn sac morelike 20minutes this pond will be overgrown with mats so bring a frog rod or your flippin stick with braid and a green frog. Also too I have cought some decent flip fish with brushhogs.

There isnt much bank fishing in sac, if you can hook up with a boater and go out to the delta or another lake for a day or 1/2 day you will have a blast.

Thanks. I'll try the pond and see how it goes, but like I said funds are limited so I won't be able to afford to go out on a boat.

I'm not too familiar with the Delta-how far is it from Sac? Can i fish the bank from anywhere there and be able to catch fish?

The Delta extends its way as far as Sac..If you can find a place to toss a line you can probably catch some catfish using cut bait or clams..As far as bass fishing goes it is rather tough fishing from shore on most of the Delta..Not impossible, just tough..

Actually from Sac you can go the 5 out to the 12 and fish off the levee wall in whites. Its about a 35 minute drive. Spinner bait and senko walk the levee wall and cast parrell to the tules and the senko in the grass. It is a hoot or you can cut bait for stripers or catfish.

Mather is good fun, just VERY overwgrown with weeds. My biggest frog fish out of there last summer was a 4.0 and there are bigger fish in the pond. If you have a float tube you can really do some damage there.
