baits or techs, for shad hatch
What is your best baits for top, middle, bottom when there is a ton of bait. Right now they are all over the the shad hatch here. I'm haveing trouble catching them because of the amount of bait in the water. Any help would be great, thank you
Re: baits or techs, for shad hatch
Throw a net!
I have no clue, but I'm interested! Are they all over the river now?

I do not know where your located or where you fish, BUT..............
If they are busting/feeding on that bait, shad.... everything should work. I would not waste my time throwing anything that is not a reaction bait.
top = my xcalibur spook or iovino splash it
middle =vision 110, staysee 90 , pointer (you can pick the size) i got these radar 10 mini cranks.
bottom = spoon or weighted wacky rigged senko, drop shot

OH... I thought you meant how to catch the shad. Oops.
Throw a weighted fluke right in the middle. The bigguns should be below the smaller active fish.

Baby bass fry and shad fry etc., Don't fool with it.MikeS.Ohio wrote:What is your best baits for top, middle, bottom when there is a ton of bait. Right now they are all over the the shad hatch here. Target the adult threadfin shad and fingerling baby bass hiding in cover during low light hours. The shad will move out into main lake areas after the sun has activated the plankton.
Basstrix baitfry and Flash minnows work fly lined or drop shotted.
Small top water lures; Original F13 Rapala, Tiny Torpedo's, Splash-Its, Zip N Ziggy's. Spoons when the bait get out in the main lake areas. Pointers in the transtion areas should all work for you.
